Some people say a boat is a hole in the water that you throw money into. My son turns 30 today and this picture with his sister is my answer to: is a boat worth it? Such great times.

Amen! No pictures, but we were out on the water yesterday and my girls were playing and laughing and having a great time. Something about the sun and the water just makes for a good time!

Those look like really young 30yr olds!

100% agree though. it is a TON of cash, time, and effort to get on the water. Pictures like this. Memories for life. Time away from screens in fresh air. So so many reasons it's a great hobby!

Same here! We frequently reminisce on past boating excursions, and those are fantastic memories.
But I also like the work involved, and find it rewarding in many ways - it is a great way for kids to learn responsibility and keeps them from screen time!
Boating, for me, is a great allegory of life - it is mostly work, and a lot of serious fun here and there, lol.

Back in the Olympic days there was saying, "The moments are brief but the memories are everlasting." Never forgot that. If you're one of the lucky ones that have "extra" money to make mems, this is a great way to spend it. Remember, when you pass, you can't take it with you. Ask the Great Pharaohs...

I would rather spend a crap load of money and time on a boat and have pictures like in the original post than look back and see pics of my kids being TV, ipad, and cell phone zombies. It builds life experiences and brings everyone closer together.

My 2 cents..

Everything we do that is a lot of fun takes work.... after a while that work becomes routine as we either learn how to do it better or we make solutions to reduce the amount of prep for each hour of fun. So far, I have found that the amount of work / puttering is about one hour for each 30-40 hours of fun on the water, the amount of fun time is probably higher than that.

When I was around 8 my Dad got a boat that we used on the weekends when he didn’t have to work, I did most of the driving unless the weather had gotten bad or there were other boats nearby. I think he sold that boat when I was around 11.Those pleasant experiences are what lead me to get my first boat many years later. I like the boat more than I thought I would and use it every chance I get.

I‘ve already taken quite a few folks out for the day and they are smiling the whole time while out fishing. We will be adding towables to the equation this summer, and possibly wake surfing / wake boarding.

As others have stated here in another way... there usually isn‘t a uhaul following the hearse to the cemetery.

One of my favorite pics of my sons from three years ago. Pulled them out of school to watch the eclipse from our boat. They still talk about it from time to time.20170821_131615.jpg

When we boat it’s all about smiles per miles and relaxing! I don’t care about fuel, politics, boat payments, TV, iPads, work and hectic everyday life grind. All of that crap just disappears the second the boat is off the trailer.

Cant put a price on happiness and spending time with family and friends on the water!

Or the price when your wife tries to take you out and cash in on your life insurance policy :D :D....
