After searching the forums for user feedback after installing the JBP Lateral Thruster on their Yammie jetboat, and didn't find anything...if you have these installed, please post your personal take on what looks like a great mod.

There hasnt been much feedback because most of the preoders just shipped recently and either the boats are in storage or havent tested them yet.
I believe tbere is feedback on JBP website

I've been all over the JBP website but was hoping for a non-bias review from someone down far enough south who enjoys boating year round. I'll bump this thread every once and a while.

I purchased the original (3D printed) lateral thrusters back in September. After installation and using them, i love them and would never go back to not having them. So much maneuverability and control.

THX Cam! How's your confidence in and around tight spots? Is she feeling what percentage better in the way of maneuverability?

For me when i pull up to the marina, i back into the slip. With the LT, it makes it so easy. i no longer have to get a lot of momentum going for the back end of the boat to swing around. The LT is pushing the side of the boat which ever direction i want it to go. If i need reverse and Lateral movement i would use both throttles, for more lateral movement i would use just the opposite throttle of the side i am docking against. There is some slight backwards movement as well, but not as much than with both
It is hard to say the percentage gained. i would say 50% better in response.
It is not all about the reverse control as a lot of people on the forum who have never used the product are talking about. "reverse control" to me it is all about "Lateral Control". the pushing sideways you get.
In my docking situation, i am doing it all. My wife is watching our 2 year old and 4 year old. So docking can me challenging without the aid of others. I now have zero anxiety when docking and would not think twice when pulling up to a tight spot.

Great feedback! My slip is shared wiht another boat and of course the waves and wind come at me in the worst possible way. Let's just say that me and my son of 14yrs old don't necessarily get along during this procedure LOL

Very much appreciated Cam! Cheers!!!

Well, to me "reverse control" is primarily about being able to go... in reverse. One issue is how much of a "strait back" reverse is potentially "lost" due to the LTE obstruction of the water flow - strait up under the hull. I'm very curious about it as in my slipping situation I need to push back, sometimes pretty hard, to get out of the slip - in strait line. Also, being on a river primarily, I need to be able to back up when I need to back up, LOL. Bad things can happen fast if I start spinning in circles. Don't get me wrong! - it sounds super nice to be able to throw your stern around sideways, no doubt! - but not at the expanse of strait line reverse, not in my case anyway.

I also do not like the idea of not being able to use Cobras fins and MEGAs along with LTEs - which would be another significant trade of for me. Cobras in my opinion are far superior to TVs because of the build and stay down all the time which makes for better water sports, by far, and sharper turning (also by far).

well, don't get me wrong @swatski there is plenty of reverse control... . i always like how you come back with comments maybe not against the Lateral Thruster but never in favor when you have never tried it. """ spinning in circles """ I in fact think you will have more reverse control than ever before. If you need full reverse you get 100% factory reverse thrust as long as you do not turn 100% left or right... That has been stated as well several times by @JetBoatPilot . only 30% of the thrust is giving to lateral movement and that is only at full lock.

When you right you right.

Caution: intended for those with a slight sense of humor and time to gladly waste on his/her love of jet boats and this forum...

I was very excited about this product. During the well planned “guessing game” phase of the product launch (also known as torture), I was envisioning a massive articulating reverse gate contraption. In actuality, Will (@JetBoatPilot ) and his team (in usual fashion) came up with a minimally invasive, elegantly simple product that simply works. With the twin setup on my now “pioneering” SX210 Yamaha design, I was pleased to wag my tail too and fro on the water after a very easy installation.

Campers by the part of the lake where I played with the capabilities must have been enchanted by my mystical ballet of clockwise and counterclockwise gyrations on the water’s face...it was so beautiful they were crying (forget the laughing part that brought them to tears).

Yes, they work! You can see the bubbles shoot out the side as the flow is diverted. Add some throttle (under 4K please) and even more bubbles and more dizzy. I experimented quite a bit; but still not to my satisfaction. The advantage of winter boating on Keowee is crystal clear water so you can easily see rocks, logs or lost anchors on the bottom. I could pick an object and do turns about a point like back in the days of earning my private pilot’s license with the greatest of ease; but also in reverse!

I forget what I paid...probably a good thing (don’t remind me). I can say for all the investment Will made in 3D printing technology, it probably wasn’t enough. I still shot a missed approach going stern first into the slip (it can’t push the bow if you screw up and end up angled when the stern aligns with the slip opening).

I am also very excited to have a new warning sticker as there simply weren’t enough on my boat after ripping several off (never the va-jay-jay one, of course)...and since I am an early model, I can really feel like a rebel revving to 4500 in reverse! I don’t buy anything stressing or falling off above 4000; but I also haven’t tested my anus either, so let’s be careful out there.

Also, with dual throttles, each having independent options of forward idle, neutral, reverse, forward gun-it, reverse gun-it and engine off in varying combinations Lateral Thrusters gives you something like 720 combinations of masterful maneuvering techniques. Perhaps that is one of the weaknesses. It isn’t hard to get lost in the plethora of available thrust manipulations in the seconds of criticality known as docking. One must definitely program the mind and body to reverse the opposite engine of the steering wheel direction.

As a final thought and an inspiring vision to my somewhat theatrical, satirical and ironically realistic review, the advancement of humankind (this time in the form of JBP Latral Thrusters) is a stark awakening to the unrelenting existence of gluttony where I am now obligated to reveal my own Jet Boat mod to even further enhance the rotational capability of my vessel while exponentially complicating the number of possible solutions to a given aquatic maneuvering equation.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the Lateral Thruster Squirt Boosters! Let’s just call them LTSBs.

I am excited to say, these are FULLY compatible with Thrust Vector XL, XV, XX, XY and XZ and CAN be used in conjunction with both 3D-printed AND cast Lateral Thrusters. As I do not presently have any Cobra goodies (good stuff though) @Cobra Jet Steering LLC may want to comment as to any physical incompatibilities or warranty voids associated with yet another unsanctioned aftermarket time bomb, which could likely cause my boat to spontaneously disintegrate or change direction by 180 degrees. No, these will not deform if you hit a telephone pole in the water at 43 mph.

Thanks to ALL for a great source of fun in my life, for great products @Cobra Jet Steering LLC and @JetBoatPilot and to all the administrators for the most amazing forum of any flavor I have ever experienced.

ROFL. Brilliant. Almost missed the cord running from the thrusters to the trigger. So will you be offering a group buy on the LTSBs? Ha.

I will offer a group buy on the first ship set only!

Great stuff!
I can' wait to test my Lateral Thrusters out.

@Seadeals thanks for the theatrical review! Very entertaining indeed!! Glad to hear that you enjoyed them and I hope to hear many more reviews like yours!!! lol

Hmmm... @Seadeals I don't think your LTSB is compatible with my Wake Wedge. I'm going to hold off until you come out with an updated version.

Just tried to install my thrusters on my 2017 SX210 and ran into a couple of problems. The center mounting bolt is about 3/8" to long and won't tighten and the brace hangs 1/2" below the thruster. Can't get a hold of Jet Boat Pilot till Monday to find out what's going on. Anybody else have this problem?

send Will a private conversation though @JetBoatPilot he will respond faster

My problem isn't resolved yet but I wa spleased to get a call from Jet Boat Pilot late on Saturday to try to get to the bottom. Happy about that.
Will do some measuring tomorrow and follow up.
Thanks Will

I have a different model boat, but I did have to run a tap through the threads before bolting on the Lateral Thrusters
