JetBoaters.net Bimini Fling July 10th to 15th 2017

Ha! I was just going through the Charleston cooper river run posts. I think it would be a good run to test my boat before Bimini. Definitely interested.

Definitely a good way to add 10 or so hours on your boat and you'll have the opportunity to take it out into the ocean if you would like.

@1948Isaac and @Ramblin Wreck you guys are killing me, I want to go in the worst way. Ever since I've heard you two are going to Bimini, even for a short time, Cindy and I have been trying to figure out how we can make it happen. But darn it, there is 7 days every 6 weeks where it is just about impossible (except for a family emergency) for me to get time off work and off course that 7 day period starts Thursday night of the Bimini week. Oh the joy of working for an power company and having a job that requires 24/7/365 coverage with a 6 person rotation. I'll be thinking of you guys and the rest of the Bimini gang while I'm working nightshift.

@GMAN2015 I completely agree with what @Ramblin Wreck and @robert843 have said about a day trip to Exuma, it just isn't worth it or possible to accomplish. If conditions are good it would take you one day to get there, spend one day in Exuma, and then one day to get back to Bimini. Spend your time in Bimini and enjoy that area, you will be surprised on how fast the time goes while you are there. If though you really want to go to Exuma for the day, you can catch a flight there, rent a boat to see the pig, I would also see the iguanas (my opinion they are better than the pigs), spend the night and then fly back in the morning. If you ever plan a trip to Exuma, you definitely need to plan for at least 5 days in Exuma and 2 days travel each way to cover contingences.

@1948Isaac you should Fly into Myrtle Beach and join us on the Charleston Cooper River run in May you can fly non stop cheap on Spirit Airlines out of Ft Lauderdale I'm sure between @Andy S and I we can secure you guys boat space on the trip.

That would be great @robert843 . I am very possitive i can make it happen but first i will make sure i dont have anything on those days related with work ones i get to my office, and other than that, i dont see why not... i get free flights because of my amex points.

@1948Isaac, @ClemsonTiger I know you guys have your sights set on trophy fish but I am planning to take a day trip down to Tuna Alley to chum the waters and catch reef fish faster than we can bait the hooks.
Let me know @Bruce i am down anytime to catch some good fish out there. Maybe this year my fishing poles will be up to the task...lol.

I understand @Andy S

All this talk of Exuma is making me wish we were going back this year. Oh well i will have to enjoy that tropical paradise of Shelbyille Illinois instead. they do have Kalik and palm trees there correct?

@robert843 It's more of a cornfields and Busch Light kinda place. ;) But the company is good.

Are you driving down Friday or Sat?
I'm currently in Iraq I will be back in the area in April for 4 weeks then
I will deploy again in may to July 1 st But I was thinking to depart sometime that Friday 7th!
Bruce was saying that We cant reserved the parking lot and we the amount of guys signed I think is best!
We need to get together in April I leave in Saint Johns! I just went with my family to Bird Island in St agustine!
nice spot. ust let me know! thanks for reaching out!

We will be arriving either Friday or Saturday as well.
We usually go straight to http://www.harbourtownemarina.com/ , launch, run up to check in at Bahia Mar, and then spend the time on the boat.
If you had to you could Uber around town if needed, or boat back to your vehicle. But it does take 45-60 mins to get back to Harbour Towne from Bahia Mar.

Hey @Scott Skrogstad

admittedly, the first 1 or 2 times you put the top on, it will likely take 10-15 minutes to do it. I would route the straps to the ratchet the wrong way, or one of the strap snaps on the outside vs inside of one of the support bars. But since, it is as @swatski observed, a 5 minute activity.
The first 2 times I put the top on it was in my driveway with no time pressure (ramp, kids,...), so I could learn the 'logic' used by the designer. Once you get it, you'll rarely mis-route the straps
Off can be done in 2 minutes.

I haul my boat about 45 minutes, most of the time I use it. I don't have a problem with leaving the top on for trips of and hour or so, and being mindful of keeping top speed around 60. I figure the boat goes 50+ and some headwind needed to be part of the engineering design.

I have practiced a few times in the drive way and I have it down to about 10 min. So all is good.. When I bought the boat they told me to took three people to put it on and it was a big deal. I guess they were not the brightest bunch since it was very straight forward.

I am open to when ever, It is just my wife and I. I am up for a get together in April. Just let me know when and we can work it out. I just moved down here in OCT and I have been up and down the ICW. Bird Island sounds like a plan..

@GMAN2015, there is a lot of routing and planning information for the Exhumas in this thread https://jetboaters.net/threads/big-majors-cay-the-exhumas.4020/. Anyone who is going to make this trip needs to be experienced and only go with a group of experienced and like minded friends. The lodging situation down there and along the way is not suitable for large groups. You also need to be prepared for the possibility that the water conditions could force you to leave your boat somewhere along the way and fly back.

@Ramblin Wreck, I suspect that one reason for routing to Chub even if you have sufficient fuel for a direct hop to Nassau is to cut across or skirt the tip of the Tongue of the Ocean instead of running its length.

Chub Cay is almost a straight shot from Bimini to Nassau, plus after a 90 mile run, it is nice to get a break even if you don't need fuel.
