It may be that you’re not getting much of a response on this because none of us have any good ideas for you, and all of us hope that we never have a carbon seal issue. I’m no expert, but my understanding is that the driveshaft needs to be removed to replace the carbon seal, and that requires special tools and looked like a lot of work. I’m inclined to do much of my own work, but I remember thinking that carbon seal replacement is one of the things, that if needed, I would bite the bullet and probably have the dealer do. You may want to make sure that the dealer knows not to run the engine out of the water for an extended time, since this has the potential to damage the carbon seal.
