How does this master brake assembly come free? Do I have to release the line from the back? From my view it looks as though the brake line has no elbow joint it's directly connected to the hose.

I will try to be brief. The large pins at the top of the attached pic are held in place by “C” clips. Removal of the clips and pins should allow the entire surge brake assembly to slide out of the folding part of the trailer tongue (after you disconnect the brake line that is).

That's a great photo all laid out however it doesn't solve for how to remove the brake line from the master cylinder when
you have no slack in said line plus its directly connected to the brass threaded body's (No Swivel) The brake line is already
twisted hard by the first installer.

The simple way to remove the brake line is to detach the folding tongue from the trailer with the surge brake assembly installed and twist the entire assembly to de/un thread the line off the surge brake. I replaced the emergency brake cable on my unit a few years ago and recall that getting the brake line off was the most time consuming part. Others have had the same difficulty.

I don’t know if the front of the surge brake assembly is wider than the tongue/ sleeve but if it isn’t I would try to push the su he brake assembly out of the back of the sleeve to give me better access to the brake line connection. In retrospect the tongue is probably wider than the sleeve, if it wasn’t I wouldn’t have gone through hell to detach that line.

What a mess. That's what I'll do. Thank you Ronnie.
