my new Meta tr 29 finally got delivered last month. Hold crap, what a difference. I went from a 6 year old low end hard tail diamondback. This new commencal has it all. My son is on a ripmo. @tabbibus there are a couple mtn teams in forsyth county if you have kids 10+

I don't think there's a chance to save this derailleur because it's bent at the pins. I saw a tip on youtube that shimano derailleurs can work on the sram drivetrain. I ordered a cheap shimano m6100 for $57 (half the price of the NX derailleur). I will align the hanger bracket.. new derailleur.. It should feel good.
But I can't get the wheel 100% straight. It's my 1st time truing a wheel, but I feel that I am tightening the spokes a lot to pull it straight. I'm thinking the loop may be bent.
EDIT: Crazy that parts are sold out everywhere! It's not easy to find things.

finding parts is the worst. I also find that truing wheels is magic haha. Can't do it to save my life. Lastly, may I invite you to spend more money? Broken derailleur sounds like the perfect time to go GX AXS! haha

The trails here are built on rocks that like to dent wheels, bend derailleurs, and grind down crank arms/pedals. I definitely wouldn't want to throttle back because i'm worried about an expensive derailleur lol. It looks like the eagle derailleurs are hard to source and are selling for extra on ebay.
As for wheels, i'll probably wreck the rear wheel and then change the hub and a stronger loop. I'm determined to learn wheel truing and be 100% self-sufficient.
My local shop her has AXS GX in stock. For what its worth, apparently these AXS derailleurs will simply snap off when struck so that they don't bend and break. who knows?

I've been trying to learn a lot and here is what I know. The AXS GX design is almost identical to the GX. The only safety design is the motor has a clutch that will allow the derailleur to spring inwards vs damaging it (same function like any derailleur). I can see 3 places that really impact shift performance: B-bolt wear, bent cage, bent pins. My NX has all 3 lol
The b-bolt isn't difficult because a washer can be added there to remove play.
SRAM offers a replacement inner cage with pulleys for about $30, but the outer cage isn't serviceable because it's riveted to the derailleur. The only option is to bend it back.
And lastly, the bent pins that the derailleur pivots on can't be repaired on the NX because they're riveted in. I read that the GX has circlips so they can be removed and bent back, but SRAM doesn't sell replacement pins.
The derailleur isn't repairable therefore it's a consumable component. Then they should at least be priced more reasonably. Only reason I see to go with SRAM is because of their lighter components. But I could be wrong with all of this lol
It will never be perfect bc it has 4 dings, but I got the wheel close by using zip ties as reference points. There’s About 1mm runout laterally and radially. I’m thinking that I will beat up this wheel set more then build a new set.
also I ordered the shimano deore derailleur for $56 and hanger bracket alignment tool. Apparantely the shimano derailleurs will fit the sram cassette and for $56, it’s a great price for something that will get dinged up.
Took off for a bit at lunch today to get a ride in.
Nice and quiet at noon on a Fri. only saw 2 others riding, might have to make this a standing appointment on the calendar for the summer.
I've been riding my cannondale since my santa cruz is waiting for parts. I decided that I will make this bike into my big mountain and downhill bike. It's got 170/165 travel and I put zee brakes in 2019. This bike has a 2-link single pivot design with a lot of progression so it's a perfect candidate for a coil. I bought the rockshox super deluxe. It has a lock out remote for climbing and the shock has an off-the-shelf tune for my bike. The negative is the bike is near to DH bike weights at 34lbs. Maybe i'll order the coil fork if I really like this..
Its a fox 36 performance with 170mm travel. I feel that its always had a lot of stiction. For $500 I can service the lowers and get the push industries coil conversion.
It's a lot of money. The fox 38 is $1000 with FIT4 damper (same as my 36) and $1200 with the GRIP2. And I don't think I need the extra stiffness because I only weigh 160lbs. I want to try servicing the lower on my fox 36 to see if it feels a little better. If not then I would either convert to coil for $500 or buy something like the MRP ribbon Ribbon Coil 27.5
I serviced the fork and removed the volume spacer. I was using most of the travel and it felt good in the rock gardens, but the fork doesn't react to the small stuff. There's too much stiction on the 2017 fox 36 air piston so I ordered the PUSH ACS3 coil conversion kit. I got to test the coil shock this past Sunday. On drops, the rear was going into the last 15% of travel and hitting the bumper, but I didn't feel any bottom out. Here's a video going into a new-to-me trail in heavy rain. Full gopro effect is on and there was some "oh shit" moments lol
Since going full coil, i've been riding the dimaond tech trails and boasting how I can charge through rock gardens. Well.. I've had quite a few dents and the 2nd picture resulted in a flat tire. I installed cushcore in my make-shift garage in the street (apartment living problems) and now my enduro weighs 36.2lbs, that is Zee brakes, DHF/DHR tires, full coil, and cushcores so the bike is tough. I still pedal faster than my friends + gf so it's fine. I'm looking that the next tire set will be Assegai DH in the front, and a fast rolling dissector EXO+ in the rear.
yo. cuschore is a must in my eyes. That is probably what my rig weighs as well. I love my front assagai but I want to change my back one for an aggressor.

The aggressor sounds good. Per maxxis website: "Dry, rocky trails". That is most of the bike parks here, but i'm a little concerned about when the rocks are wet. Dissector is the other popular tire to pair with assegai
