Need a new fuel tank!

Well, I'm about to lose it. The Yamaha dealer called me today to inform me they heard news from Yamaha that my order was being cancelled because the manufacturer doesn't make the mold for my tank any longer. The tank of which is for the 2006 model ar230 as mine was superseded. They waited a month and a half to notify me!!!!!!!

Moeller Marine Products made this tank and so tomorrow I am going to take @Murf'n'surf 's advice and call them to possibly pull the crying girl in distress card. Oh wait, that's not a card, that will be real!

Meanwhile my guy at the marina is also checking into my options. He had to listen to many cuss words from me about Yamaha's wonderful customer service. Poor guy.

Sigh. I will update.....

Do you know the dimensions of the tank?

I would shop for tanks that are readily available, reasonably priced and will fit in the hole.

Unbelievable! But thanks for the update. Good luck.

Is it possible to repair your if a new one can't be located? Good luck in your search @MutherTucker.

Moeller probably has a tank that fits. I think this is an issue of someone submitting an order for a specific part number and when it was returned as 'not available' they didn't ask what tank replaced it and past the SOL on to you.

You need some of that stuff the Air Force paints inside fuel tanks to stop leaks.

Here's an update from today from Lake Springfield Marina:

Been on a little bit of a goose chase today trying to track this down. Long story short Moeller sold the mold rights for that tank to a company out of South Carolina called Seahunt boat manufacturing. And for Moeller to produce the tank they have to get an OK from Seahunt.

I spoke with Seahunt and they couldn’t believe Moeller was making me jump through all these hoops but said if Moeller needs to contact them for a release to produce the tank they would do it for me. I just got off the phone with Moeller again and they are going to contact Seahunt to get the OK and then call me with updated information.

Just wanted to let you know where I’m at and as soon as I hear back from Moeller again I will let you know what we are looking at.

Joe

Joe. Is. Awesome. and during the busiest time for their marina, he is all over it! He likely won't make a dime, but knows I'm a damsel in distress!

Wow, hope to hear good news soon.

Geez. I think by now I'd have an old bronco gas tank in my boat to get by with for a lite while!:-)

It's great to hear that you have someone working so hard for you. Sometimes it doesn't seem like there are a lot of people like that left in the world.

Glad to hear you are possibly making progress. I have not been reading all the threads otherwise I would have dropped a bit of advice. My dad repaired boats for the last 20+ years. In a situation like this, he would contact a tank manufacture and send the old tank to them. I know the original is plastic and due to the molding process, they are a paint to make a 1 off however there is no reason you could not have an aluminum or stainless tank made. There are options if this falls through that will get your baby water ready in no time. Hang in there.

Aluminum fuel cell in a Yamaha would be AWESOME!!!

I've tried both of those places and they don't stock them, they have to order from Yamaha which will circle me back to my current status. Still working, will update.

We're all rooting for you!!

What do you guys think of this? I mean, it's not like there's a huge hole there. Attaching photo

I think that some sort of repair followed by testing makes sense.
