Picked up an LT80 (unknown year) for $200 recently, for the kiddos. Rough shape and not running at the moment, but at first glance I’m thinking the carb just needs cleaning. This thing seems pretty simple so hopefully I’m not in over my head :) Anyway, I’m excited to have something to wrench on in my (limited) spare time

Those are awesome little quads and deceivingly fast, but they should have a throttle limiting screw to keep the kiddos in check.
good luck with it!

I agree with @feziwig. Those little quads are usually pretty dependable and hold their value. I’d say you got a great deal and hopefully the issue is just the carb from the corn syrup gas.

Update: started stripping her down today. Hoping to have it down to the frame over the next day or two. Looks like I’ll need to replace the wiring harness - it’s cut and melted in numerous places. The exhaust bolts are going to be a problem a well... pretty rusted and slightly rounded. Other than that, no surprises 👍

Those front control arms on a single pivot look sketchy as dammit from a vehicle stability standpoint. What a wired design.

Looks like a fun project. I've debated trying to find something like this locally and convert it to electric for my boys (8 and 2) to ride around the house and at grandparents and such.

I'll be following along to see how it works out.

FINALLY got her stripped down to the frame.... really should have checked with wifey to see what outstanding tasks I had on the honey-do list before taking on this project :) That and crappy weather set me back a bit.

Ordered a new set of handlebars and bumper guard. Once those come in, everything is getting powdercoated. I’m thinking pink with sparkly purple accents 🤣 love my girls

I did one of these years ago for my son. He now rides a 400EX but he still loves the LT80 and it's still running strong.

I did the clutch mod and had Jack from Moore Racing do some work to the head + a new piston. It definitely woke it up and made it a lot more fun!
