One picture of your last outing.

We love Broken Bow! Do you live close to it? We're about 3 hours away and it's well worth the trip. We haven't in awhile so I hope we will get to go next year.

We're around 3 hours away as well. We live in the DFW area. Where are you located?

Unfortunately this is my last pic of the season. All winterized and washed and waxed and ready for winter in the garage. Can't wait till next summer and fun with the family on the water!

What happened?
I believe I hit a stump near one of the danger bouys. Whatever it was it cause a lot of damage bow waterline to stern including my just installed cobra viper steering...

I'm sure Jeff @Cobra Jet Steering LLC will help you with the Vipers, I would just see what he says.
That second picture is a bit more concerning - I would make sure there is not softness there around that crack before putting it back in the water.
Sorry that happened!

Thx! @swatski

I'll check with Jeff. He's a good guy and talked me through the entire install. lol.

It's at a gel coat specialist now, so I'm sure they will check for the structural/water tight integrity and water test it before giving it back.

Perfect.
These hulls are wonderful in some ways - no core wood to rot and super light for trailering, but boy - are they thin... They can crack like an egg shell, lacking that core. But than again - if fixed right there are now worries of rotting wood core and stringers - what a great feeling!

We're about 40 miles SE of downtown Dallas in Kaufman. Where are you?

The damage to your steering is actually covered under my warranty, the warranty is explained on my web page but basically if you purchased any steering system directly from me , as long as it is still in production if you have a mishap even hitting a submerged object as you did that causes damage to the unit, you can return it to me I will repair it or replace it for 49 dollars or less plus shipping.
One of the first people to try one ran into a submerged rock wall in a river in CT and really damaged his steering but I was able to repair it for very little cost. https://jetboaters.net/threads/cobra-jet-viper.13241/#post-235226
This covers any of my systems as long as they are still available. Even if you were in a rear end traffic accident and the steering unit was damaged on the trailer headed to the water. But do not attempt to fix it yourself as you may do damage that I can't fix and it would not be covered if you do it intentionally or try to fix it on your own making it impossible for me to repair it.

By the way how did you like the vipers before you had the mishap?

And then there's these clowns who want to ride side by side down the channel taking up nearly the whole damn thing...

@Cobra Jet Steering LLC

Thx for the info Jeff! I will have the repair guy remove it so I can return it. I wish more merchandisers were as helpful as you have been.

As far as the steering...No more 360s around the docks and it truly steers itself at WOT. I have video proof. lol. Top speed did not change but 53 is more than fast for me. This boat is much more of a pleasure to drive since adding the steering.

Thank you @Cobra Jet Steering LLC

Thank you I appreciate your feedback I would also like to point out that the part was designed to be sacrificial if it is involved in a serious impact as demonstrated in both your mishap and the previous one that I referenced.
They reacted to the impact as they were designed to do . All my steering systems were designed for that either by spring loaded fine or by brackets that will give if they are impacted severely enough like the Magnum A K systems or the Ultimate systems so this is no different .
NOW wouldn't it be nice if Yamaha gave you a fix or replace warranty on your hull also even if you struck a submerged object.
So one more question How did you like the handling in reverse ? I am told the steering influence is a huge improvement over the stock setup.
Remember I enhanced the reverse control but in no way did I change it's intended tracking response to the wheel.
It will respond better and even slow your boats forward momentum better and steer all at the same time and provide power steering .
I would love to see your video since I am not all that good at making those .
Actually anyone with the VIPER installed who would care to submit their own videos of the handling of their boat using any of the three viper systems or even the Magnum A K or my ULTIMATE system please feel free to do so. I already have one that was posted of the 19 foot traveling in a straight line with no on at the helm while idling in no wake mode.
Some other suggestions would be using the steering in rough conditions or in off power steering from wide open to neutral and then turning the wheel to turn the boat. I believe just showing that the boat won't go into a turn or spin on it's own when decelerating rapidly would be helpful.
Another would be allowing a novice to operate the boat and show how the learning curve is basically gone compared to a stock boat, operating during watersports would be another area that I am sure people would love to see. There are a lot of different posts and threads about the VIPER if you just punch in VIPER in a search.

@Sly J we boat on falls a lot.. what area were u in when you hit the object?
@bronze_10

It happened near the first set of danger bouys up from wildlife ramp 12. I was near the right of the second bouy and got caught on a submerged stump or log, not sure. Just started using Falls so maybe its a known hazard by those of you who use the lake frequently.

Side note...I just signed up for yearly ramp use at the Core Creek Marina Ramp. It's a private ramp out of the current on the ICW with a few daily slips. Read on here where a group cruised through Adam's Creek this weekend. It's $10 bucks a day.
