I bought a set of guide posts for a new 252SD that won’t be here for another month or so, but in the meantime, I’d like to get the metal supports powder coated to match the trailer. I don’t remember if the trailers are gray or black. Does anyone know if there is a specific color code Shoreland’r uses or are they just straight black? Also are they gloss, semi or matte finish.

I used VeVe guides. They are galvanized. I also used the pads that slip over the guide pole pvc roller.

You can paint the white pvc below the pad, black, but I used the black/white change in color as a backing guide. Dipping the trailer until the water level hits the pad. It was easier to see than painting it all black. My $.02.

If you bought painted, it is black. If you paid the extra for galvanized, it is that gray galvanized color.

I bought a set of VeVe guides for our previous boat and used straight black paint on the hardware and lower section of the PVC. It looked great, but as noted, they will be tough to see. But when on the street, it was a sharp combo.

You can powder coat with the understanding that the bolts/nuts will chip a fair amount off. When I assembled mine, I even gave it a quick spritz to cover any scratches done on install.

The trailer for my yamaha sits in my pole building mostly, so I didn't even give any thought to painting it. But our previous boat was black, so it was a different story.

Good luck,

Thanks for sharing biffdotorg, I only looked at a boat on the showroom floor briefly, but for some reason I got it in my mind that the trailer may have been charcoal or a hammer finish (definitely not galvanized). My mind seems to play tricks on me a tiny bit more every day!

Since you are in Wisconsin you would be like the dealers here in MN. All Yamaha boats are shipped with painted to our dealers unless the specify galvanized. As freshwater should not require it. On the flipside, coastal dealers order galvanized by default unless they specify painted for the same reason. You don't want to stick a painted trailer in saltwater on a regular basis.

It's totally possible you got galvanized, but either way, it will say on your invoice, as it is the only option available on most Yamaha boats that effect price.

Good luck,

Since we’re buying the boat from River Valley in Rochester, I reached out to Mike. He said the trailer will be a textured black and sent me a pic. Based in the pic, it looked to be a bit gray. Looking at color swatches on PPG’s powder coating site, there are a lot of different shades of black, so I asked Mike to reach out to Yamaha and/or Shorelandr to help solve this mystery!

Finally got around to installing my trailer guides. I was going to have them powder coated to match the trailer, but decided to go with @biffdotorg suggestion and used rattle cans. Shoreland’r is powder coating the new trailers with a textured matte black finish (called Black Shore) and the textured finish seems quite brittle so I’ll be interested to see how well it holds up. You can buy textured paint in rattle cans, but I felt a thinner film might be a bit more durable. Since I bought tall guides, I thought I’d try mounting them to the bottom of the rail. Just need to a little touch up.

Too late now, but if you were gonna rattle can 'em, shoulda went with PlastiDip or the Rustoleum dip. The finish is somewhat close to the texture. The Rustoleum hammered would be the closest you'll come to that finish, but it's not the same texture at all, and unless you were going with the brush-on, I wouldn't trust the spray version for exterior use. The finish is almost like a bedliner, but that's just a bit rougher than the trailer's texture.

There's bigger fish to fry than trying to match your guide posts to the trailer. I'll be the only jerk to make fun of you for that, and that's only because you said something about it 🤣 🤣 🤣

speaking of envious trailer setups, any tips for reviving the finish of the powder-coating? my trailer has lost it's luster.
303 protectant? quick spray wax?

I didn't powder coat mine - instead I bought a can of "trailer bead spray in liner" from the local fleet farm store and sprayed them. 4 seasons later and they still look like new, and the texture matches the trailer.

Spent way too much time fretting about it, I finally said *uck it and painted them! Figured if I don’t like it, I‘ll just have them blasted and powder coated at the end of the season. Now we just need some nice weather!

It's possible that taking a heat gun to it may do a little bit of melting to revive it, but I don't know that it's going to bring back any shine or anything

If I had to guess it's probably going to be different shades due to sun damage or just wear in those areas. you could try wash with a stiff bristle brush, and a wax, but with that texture I think that's going to be a losing battle or it won't end up the way you envision it. if you want it all to match, guaranteed, the only way I can see is to repaint it and that bed liner that's suggested sounds like a great option although I don't no the cost of that. They do sell it in buckets from what I remember, 1 gallon pail that may be able to be brushed on 🤷‍♂️

I agree, trying to revive a powder coat finish is a long shot. Some type of repaint will probably be needed.
