Want to install new brakes and rotors on trailer does anyone know what size or where I can purchase these items? It’s a galvanized trailer dual axle (Shorelandr) and came with my 255xd.
Several folks have rebuilt their trailers. @Floridaman79 wrote up a great thread for his 210 FSH trailer and I’d be surprised if the parts are different. Do a search for trailers and Floridaman79 user name that should take you to the thread.
So after 3 years of heavy use in a combination of freshwater, saltwater, and brackish water, my trailer was returning to the earth. It was to the point that the equalizer bars were no longer equalizing, the tires were nearly bald, and I was concerned that in the event of a roadside failure I would be unable to work on it due to the parts being rusted and I would be up a creek, so to speak.
This thread is what I did about it and hopefully it will come in handy for those who may be in a similar situation.
Without further adieu here are some glamour shots of what the trailer looked like...
Do some searches for trailers…. I think @Dixemon listed some part numbers when he replaced his rotors.
You can also go on shorelanders website and you put in your trailers VIN and it will take you to a parts fish. Once you get the part numbers you can go to Trailer Parts Super Store and put the part number in and it should bring up the part.
Several guys have gone to stainless steel calipers and zinc hubs.
No you can’t buy parts directly from shore lander.
So I bought the boat brand new and trailer also in 22. I read so many posts about the trailers being made like ish and not quality parts. I noticed last year I was burning a lot of gas towing and it did feel like the brakes could be dragging a touch.
So today I popped off the tire and decided to see what’s going on. Jacked up the trailer and tire did not spin at all (maybe cause hydraulic brake was still activated ). Took caliper off and rotor spun just fine. Would hate to get stranded on the highway for something I can just handle now.
So wanted to order new rotors, calipers and pads and re bleed the hydraulic system. I took some pics of calipers but not sure where to go to purchase everything. Rotors are 9.75” though. Any ideas from anyone where I can purchase or what part numbers I can reference to?
This one is a long time coming as I had wanted to do a more comprehensive thread after I got home from WI this summer and had to replace a wear sleeve while I was in WI. While the concept of the replaceable wear sleeve is a good one, it sure would be nice if Shorelnd’r would have included bearing maintenance and wear sleeve replacement in the owners manual. As well, the disc brake owners manual leaves a lot to be desired in terms of maintenance as well as parts.
When I was in WI this summer the drivers side front wheel started spitting some grease, I had worked on this wheel a few years...
If I were you I’d go through the brake system and make sure you are not just throwing parts at something that doesn’t need new parts, just some TLC.
What condition where the slider pins in when you removed the caliper? If they were dried out then they definitely need to be lubricated.
I used this
To push the caliper back and forth in the hanger.. there is quite a bit of force required to compress the piston
And not nearly as much to move in back
More than likely the caliper slider pins need to be lubricated.
Check the brake fluid level as well.. do not compress more than one piston at a time and then pump the master cylinder manually before moving on to the next piston or you will over flow the brake fluid reservoir and then when you pump the brakes to move the pistons back out there will not be enough fluid and you will put air in the system.
