We just bought this 2020 AR 240 a few months ago and the previous owner (in FL) had this VHF radio installed which I doubt I will ever use. It’s cool and I like the idea of having it just in case, but in reality we’ll probably never take this boat off shore.

I’d like to know what people think though. Is it more work to remove it than it’s worth? Do I just leave it there taking up space where I would much rather have some storage cubby for phone/wallet etc? The worst part is that every time I turn my batteries on it starts beeping after 5-10 minutes and I have to hold the power button to silence it.

Looks to be a fine radio setup. I basically boat on 1-2 freshwater, inland lakes and I have one. Just in case. Makes calling for help easier; also makes it so you can hear someone else calling for help. So my vote would be to keep it, but!

Break out the manual and figure out why the blessed thing is beeping. That does not sound normal. Probably some setting or something. If you fix it, looks like the radio will give you weather alerts, emergency channels and all that good stuff.

I guess I need to figure out how to use it since I have no clue. 😂

That beeping may be a low voltage alarm.. what is the battery voltage on the boat?

Took the boat out two days ago and both batteries were at 13.5-13.6 if I remember correctly.

There’s nothing that comes across the screen when it beeps?

You said you have to hold the power button down to make it stop beeping, does it stay on stop beeping after that?

You can’t just turn the radio off so nothing happens when you start the boat? Mine is getting power through a keyed power source so the radio won’t work unless a key is on but I can just leave the radio off if I want even if the key is on.
