Anyone else have a steering plate pin that won’t budge! Bought a 2019 Limited S and the steering was impossibly tight. Turns out the pin and plate is the issue. Removed set screw and tried everything I could think of to pop it out and it won’t budge. Need ideas/help.
PS. Yamaha is 4 months out at service stations.

What plate and pin are you talking about?
My steering tightened up badly on a boat with <50 hours and I can’t figure it out. I have the service manual and there’s hardly any information in there on steering.

Any update on this? My 6 month old boat with 26 hours on it is having the same issue. The dealership ordering the new steering plate but it’s back ordered until end of March. Trying to figure out a way to at least get the boat driveable. I’ve used corrosion x, wd 40 etc and tried to work it loose with no luck.

Old thread I know but im having exact same issue. Would love to know how this was removed.

I have a 2020 242SE with duals. That pin must come out from the bottom. There is less than an inch clearance between top of pin and hull. Any ideas? Steering is sooooo tight boat is almost non driveable.

First, it's SUPER nice that @AZMark's question as to what, specifically, was meant by "steering plate" was addressed
🙄

If referencing the articulating keel, remove the hardware from it, so you can move, test and verify that it's the actual problem.

The steering cables can go bad far faster than expected. One user here has had them require replacement in only 2 years (@HangOutdoors if memory serves)

You may be correct that the AK is sticking, but this could be an issue of either/or, or possibly both.

With the AK disconnected, you can also test the cables at the same time, to see if it's both, but that'd be the first step to try troubleshooting your steering issues

just disconnect the steering cables from both buckets. Then check steering. If it is hard and stuck it is the cables. If Not then check AK and also move the buckets by hand. It is one of the three, most likely the cables are seizing.

Def the AK. Removed the bracket connecting it to the bucket and took 2 hand and bit of force to just get it to budge. With it disconnected steering was effortles.
