Remind me: the '17 212X has the MR1 engines, right?

So they're TR1 engines?

So they're TR1 engines?
No, TR-1s are 3-cylinder engines, the 1.8s are 4-cylinder. 1.8s don't really have a name I guess. With superchargers the 1.8l are called SHO or (higher end) SVHO.
Both different than MR-1s (~1.1l).

So, do the 1.8 liter engines have a ribbon delete option?

@GoVols01 The 212s have always been the fastest boats in Yamaha JB fleet as they have the same engines as the 23-24 footers. So, 212s had twin MR-1 HOs (high output) same as 230/232s, and now they have twin 1.8s same as 240/242s.
210s used to have non-HO MR-1s and now TR-1, a smaller 3-cyl version of 1.8l.
The supercharged versions are only 1.8 and only single engine, so far.
Ribbon delete mod is very easy in 1.8l n/a and kind of difficult in supercharged (SHO, SVHO) versions.

Yes, highly. No disadvantage really other than slightly louder /throatier sounding boat, but more responsive and slightly more power and torque across the range.
I would contact RIVA about the intake kit (ribbon "replacement") - should come with full instructions. It should be similar to 1.8 and it is easy if you don't drop or loose any bolts and gaskets.
Use the screw trick to wiggle it out if it is hard to pull:

I would also delete the "snorkels" from air filter boxes (leave the OEM filters in):

Every bit of opening the intakes helps.
All totally reversible, too. But I do not know of ANY case where these mods would case any problems whatsoever.

It will essentially feel more like boating in cooler weather, with the engine breathing easier.

I want to do this mod. Is there any way you can re-upload your pictures?
Thaks

Nope, Twin 1.8l N/A (naturally aspirated - not supercharged).
@swatski - My '17 212x 1.8 motors are designated and labeled "High Output". Are they not supercharged? Or are they?

Your 212x has N/A, non-supercharged, engines. Only the 19' Yamaha's have superchargers.

Not supercharged. All N/A 1.8s in our boats are "HO".
SHO are SC, SVHO is the newest/most powerful version of the 1.8 SC.

The only "redesign" in new 1.8 HOs is the new timing chain mechanism w/tensioners etc. Those TCs started breaking like crazy in SC 1.8s but also some HOs, so they changed them in all 1.8s.

Im not sure but I would retain the original parts in case something comes up and you have to take your boat in . I did the ribbon delete on my 2017 AR240 and couldn't be happier

I don't think we know... Any jet skiers here done that yet?

I know this is an older thread, however when I got my ski, 2017 Yamaha VX TR-1 engine I decided to do the ribbon delete. Granted Riva now sells a kit for $160 but you can do it for free minus buying a new K&N style Riva filter that incorporates the flame arrestor now in the filter. Anyways, assuming everyone is competent enough to remove the throttle body, you'll need an assortment of small flat head screw drivers and a utility knife to start the process. Use thy edge of the knife blade up on the edge of the ribbon to start crushing the edges down enough to her a small flat blade in there and start doing the same along the whole circumference of the ribbon. Keep doing this and move up to the next size flat blade until you have crushed it enough to turn it sideways and grab it with channel locks and pull it out. There's a small rubber boot gasket the ribbon was sitting in, remove this to prevent it from getting sucked into the intake and blow/ shop vac the intake manifold if you got any little flakes of ribbon down in there. Then you're done! No need for and spacer or spend loads of money on a pointless kit. My ski gained 2mph top end after doing this mod. Alternatively, if someone wanted to remove their intake manifold, a quicker option would be to use a 1/2" drill and punch a few holes in the ribbon then break it in small pieces with a hammer and a driver of some sort then retrieve and dump out the pieces, blow out and reinstall the manifold. Hope this helps!
