What do you use so your phone doesn’t sink?

Our family all has iPhone Xs, which are waterproof. It’s nice to be able to move in and out of the boat, take pictures, etc. but my wife is always freaked out (rightfully so) that a phone will go to the bottom of the lake. (I lost a work phone like this offshore fishing years ago)

Surprisingly, other than the bulky around the neck deals that make the phone completely unusable, I haven’t found any good solutions online. It looks like a camera float might work, not sure if this has been tested.

Good question. I don’t have an answer re floats but my daughter uses a round expandable button type thingy (not sure of the actual name) which definitely gives you a better grip than without it.

I have been using this lanyard for the last couple of years. Ya, time for a new screen protector.



I recently saw this one recently but it is only good for 7 ozs. of floatation, my phone weighs 8. Other than that, my wife uses a dry bag like above.

Good suggestions so far, might have to try two of the wrist straps and see if they float an Xs max. Anyone tried this before?

Can’t believe the isn’t a better out of the box solution for this.

Here is my new float system for my Smart phone, S7 edge, patent pending. I used an old orange pool noodle I had kicking around and the same lanyard I have used for years. I even used my own phone, not Willow's, to perform the floatation test. You can see it rubber banded to the float, submerged, for the boyancy test.



That piece of pool noodle can probably float 2+ phones. This will be my setup when I take the camera paddleboarding. It was free.
Tried and tested in the popcorn pot so it must work.

The phone still works, The IP rating is good to 6'. This was an uneasy moment as I have never submerged my phone before. But it is still working.



Enough Engineering for an Easter Sunday, back to my coffee...and this board of course.

These came with my phone cases. They float my Samsung Note 10. Fits over the wrist like a typical lanyard but floats.

I posted a link to something like that one above. It's specs said it was good to 7oz. How much does does your phone/case weigh? Weighed mine at 8 oz.

Edit: FYI, It took me a 30 min. to dry out the usb port to not get a "high moisture unplug charger" message after I submerged my phone. So others may not want to test theirs.

I have used a dry bag case...something like this. I want to be able to control music and volume while floating well behind the boat. I will say that it works well, but it only take a little water to totally block the bluetooth signal.

I had a case with a loop for my old phone, and it took 2 of these to float my phone. It was super dorky looking and I rarely used it. Really surprised they don't make cases out of the material used for lifeguard lifesavers.

It is definitely dorky haha. Mine floats but it is definitely a nose down attitude with just a bit of the yellow float above water, but it works

My solution, although draconian, is simple. Kids don't use (or need) phones in or near the boat. Mine goes in a large dry bag (along with wallet, car key,...) on the way to and from the boat, then it gets clipped in next to the Connext screen. Only adults handle it for a picture. To be honest, I'm much more worried about my truck keys then anything else... I might have to get another floaty.
