They addressed almost ALL of the Concerns we had with our 242 LS before selling it.

does that mean Yamaha may have won you back for your next boat?

No wrap around lounger... That would be a boon for some, a loss for others (like me). You lose some storage associated with the base for that seat, but you gain plenty on the aft behind the seats and in the side console next to the co-captains chair.

I don't like integrated radio/dash items. That's likely an expensive replacement item.

Quiet ride is a no Brainer. Would love to be able to retrofit. It's my biggest complaint on my boat and it isn't a huge deal even at that.

Even though it appears to be a big change year, in the grand scheme, no big game changers here. Just incremental improvements that we all asked for long ago. I'm glad to see these improvements, but without a new engine and/or new jet pumps, or a completely new model (cabin/cuddy?) they are pricing closer to other boats that I would rather have for that price range.

In the under$50k range, Yamaha boats are hard to beat. In the over $50k range, not so much. That touchscreen add-on looks to me like a cheezy way to self-justify positioning against other $60k+ boats. But the rest of the construction doesn't match. The hinged seats don't hinge down so they get in the way when you open them. We've already seen a picture of a missing screw on a boat that should have been examined very closely by Yamaha before showing it off. This tells me their QA hasn't improved. No changes to the cleanout plugs as far as we know. Even the fancy-named "articulating keel" is an add-on afterthought. "Quiet Cruise"??? Really? Wow a fancy name for basic sound deadening that should have been there long long ago. Its not rocket science. And it should be in ALL the Yamaha boats, not just the over-$50k boats. I'm underwhelmed.

Sorry guys. But for the price range it doesn't compare. Compared to cheaper yamaha models, yes, the 242 looks nice. But now in the over $60k price range I don't see it standing out so much in that class.

Yeah I mean I could get a early 2000 Cruisers Yachts 32 ft for that with twin's. Of course now we are talking bottom paint, outdrive maint, slip fee's, power, water, etc....

I dont hate the touch screen, but it does bother me that the bilge control is incorporated into it. If that thing fry's and you need your bilge running... I dunno. Maybe they put one in that has a float switch?

Yamaha did some easy things to reduce the noise, such as placing thicker insulation under the engine hatch and doing a better job of sealing the engine bay. More challenging was developing a new material for the coupler between the engines and jet drive shafts and redesigning the shape of the jet pump inlets to reduce turbulence. Even the placement of the adhesive that bonds the liner to the hull and the liner design itself were fine-tuned to limit resonance of engine and pump noise through the hull.

I'm currently at 3.99 financing. If they offer 2.99 or lower, the trade could be more attractive. I dunno... it would be at least 10-15K decision in the long run. I would probably wait until we get some first hand reviews of everything before I would purchase anything anyways.

I agree that the prices are getting steep on these boats...especially the LS, but I think the AR240 and SX240 are providing really good value for the price. I think it is too early to be overly optimistic or pessimistic, but initial reviews from people onsite are overwhelmingly positive. Yamaha has appeared to listen to the owners and made upgrades to the 24' models that address virtually all of the common complaints. When you price out other 24' bowriders feature for feature, what ones are providing a better boat for the money? These boats will not compare to a Super Air Nautique G23 or a Cobalt A25, but are a fraction of the price. Go down a step to a Chaparral 244/246 or a Regal 2500 and you are still looking at $90k. Tack on additional maintenance costs and there is still value IMO.

I think Yamaha has answered the challenge from Scarab and Chaparral as well. I like the look of both of those boats and I am anxious to see what they do with their larger models, but at the end of the day, they will not have the reliable Yamaha motors and they lack cleanout ports which is a deal breaker for many of us. Additionally, they are new to the market and who knows if they will stick it out if they don't hit their sales numbers.

I guess the public will speak and we shall see how the new boats sell. My bet is that these 24' models will remain the #1 selling boat in the category. The enthusiasts on this forum represent less than 10% of the Yamaha owners. I am not a Yamaha fan boy and agree that many of these things could have been addressed long ago as incremental changes, but apparently they have been involved in some kind of crazy scheme to turn a profit.
