I noticed after reaching in my clean out ports and feeling the impellers they are pretty chewed up. I saw some replacement ones for under $300 . I am a elevator mechanic and would like to think I am mechanically inclined. When changing these is it difficult to do on your own or worth it to pay a shop to do. Any insight on oem vs aftermarket?

I’m sure you have the skills to do the job. Get a service manual though.

Look up Leading Edge or Impros and they can set you up with either repairing your impellers, getting you a new set or both.

Thank you. Is there one that recommended over the other? Or difference with vs the OEM, these are on a 2011 242

I’ve dealt with both shops and they are both good, if that is what you are inquiring about.

In regards to impeller manufacturers, I’ve seen reports of the Solas impellers folding a blade over, never have seen that with OEM.

There is an opportunity here for you to not only bring the impellers back to factory spec, but there is an opportunity to improve the performance of your boat.

Are your engines reaching peak rpm? If not this is a good opportunity to have the pitch change a bit to achieve the peak rpm of your engines. This may take one or two tries to get the peak rpm dialed in, and its a compromise, cooler temps produce more power and more rpms, whereas higher temps produce less power and lower rpms.

Where you are boating at?

Lake erie, and a river leading into it. Boat is somewhat new to me, got it last fall. Engines seem to be getting up to rpm but I noticed one was cavitating until it "caught up", which lead me to pull the cleanouts and fell them impeller edges. It feels like one side is like "spinning the tires" until it gets traction, more so when I accelerate aggresively.

Right on…… well get us some pics please.

The gap between the impeller blade and the wear ring should be between .014” and .0177”.

See if you can get a shop / service manual as well.

Jam your phone up from the bottom of the boat, through the grates, turn your flash on, take a bunch of pics, and post them here. What you are describing with the "spinning" is exactly what cavitation is.

Ok I wont be back there until later this week.
