So last September my Port engine started to make a loud pitch noise and the rpm’s ranged about 2,500 rpm’s off from the Starboard engine while at 5,000 rpm’s. Within 5 min the engine cut so we took it in for service. Took 6 months to get parts for the engine from Yamaha for the dealer to fix. This year I went through the break in process again and after only putting 4 more hours on the engine that problem happened again. These engines only have 46 hours on them. These are also the 1.9L engines. Does anyone else’s have engine problems with their Yamahas this often?

There are problems but it’s rare.

First I’ve heard of an issue with a 1.9 engine. What exactly was the problem?

What was their unsuccessful "fix"?

I’m experiencing a lot of vibration at low rpm on my new 1.9 engines with 10 hrs on them. I was told the engine harmonics may be off, or angle of the engines may be that they are fighting each other. Back at the dealer now. Hope it’s not a long fix like your experience was 🤞🏻

That sounds more like you’ve got something stuck in one or both of the impellers.

Any resolution on this?

Pinging you again for any progress on this issue…

It’s weird , I took it back to the dealer and they checked all the common things: couplers, engine mounts and engine angle, shaft, signs of wear and damage to impellar. Everything! Dealer did a bay test and could feel it too. Opened a ticket to Yamaha, they didn’t have an answer either?? They told me to run it this summer , they’ll keep ticket open cause it’s under warranty. They did tell me to run at 3100 rpm’s where it’s the most noticeable, and push against the panels especially toward the back of the boat to see if it goes away. They said possibly where panels are glued together there may be a spot?? Other than that no progress at all

So Yamaha corporate said to run it this summer and basically see what happens, correct? At least you’ve got the boat to use in the meantime.

Anyway can you post a video of this on you tube? It would be great if the video could show the problem with engine hatch closed, then open.
Has this vibration been present since the boat was new?

Of the things you listed I do not see where the reverse buckets were checked to be fully opening. Have you / anyone checked that?

I was told what your describing is something that happens when the throttle cables get stuck and the rear position on the bucket doesn’t go down all the way causing thrust to send vibration back to the boat. I was told it’s very unlikely because I have an e series boat and don’t use traditional throttle cables

Unlikely or not, correct opening of the buckets needs to be checked. On your boat the buckets are controlled by electronic actuators that push and pull on cables, shifting cables, that are connected to the reversing buckets.
