How about a record breaking Brook Trout?

I caught a 5.5# brookie at a remote lake in the sierras that I packed into as a teenager, a gorgeous fish that I released. I was glad to see the angler had some mental karate going on about whether or not to keep the fish. I’ve put back all of the lake trout I’ve caught and 95% of the other fish, keeping the ones that won’t survive and or the northern pike which make it to the table. It is my understanding that most fresh water fish grow slowly when compared to the pelagic species in the oceans. Gives one a different perspective when holding a 20# fish that is probably 20-25 years old. I mentally wrestle with what I would do if I caught a lake trout that would break the state record as that would be the demise of the fish… wish there was a way to keep them alive and put them back to see if they’d get even bigger.
