2022 AR190 Riva Maptuner has anyone done one and was it worth it? Can not find any info on it.

I did order a tuner from RIVA Racing. So will be going down that rabbit hole next. Then impeller chasing.
Have you checked your impeller and made sure there isn’t damage and or excessive gap in between the impeller and the wear ring?

I got the Tuner here, but I have not installed yet. I hope to get it done today, possibly tomorrow. I was trying to run most of the gas out of it, but didn't get to use it as much this weekend.

Installed it and did not video anything yet. but top speed today was 38 mph and I had an average of 7550 RPMs It spiked to 7820 from take off then settled down to 7200ish then started slowly climbing. I sent of the Data log so he can build a tune plus figure out what impeller to use. 85 temp 58 Percent humidity, dew point is 69 degrees. This was also with my bimini top up. I was wrong on the gas, do not need premium until the next tune.
 
Looks like you had some cavitation on take off before it hooked up and gained speed. What’s in the tune? Does it raise the rev limiter? Did riva supply you with a data logger?

It does raise the rev limiter. Not sure what else he changed, It is a Nano tuner and you use your cell phone, it is very easy to data log and send the information, plus he was quick to respond and send back new tune. Now to play with Impellers. He suggested to start with a 11/15 and repitch from there if need be if the hole shot was to bad.

What was the rev limiter increased to ? And what is the stock rev limiter set at?

My prediction will be that when you drop the impeller pitch to increase the rpms to the new rev limit which just increases effective displacement to move more air and burn more fuel, that your “hole shot” will suffer, E.G. it will cavitate badly if you apply throttle too quickly, and may break away in tight turns.

How much have you spent so far on the tuner? I don’t mean to be rude but I know I, and I believe others, want to see how much money is being spent for how much of a gain in top speed and what the down sides are.

I suggest before you start swapping impellers, since there doesn’t appear to be any gains thus far as your top speed is still the same, you go out and run a series of tests to see exactly how that OEM impeller behaves, check the gph at different rpm levels, make a full lock turn at WFO and hold until you’re going really slow in a tight circle, note the level of cavitation that is occurring then straighten the wheel and note the level of cavitation as the engine revs back up and starts to accelerate. Put the boat riding the hump, or nose high just before the boat will plane, note the level of cavitation-you’ll hear and feel it if any and the rpms in all of these situations. I ran all of the same tests when I was testing impellers and still do when I test to know as best as I can what the changes in the impeller do across the operational envelope.


Looks like your density altitude was 2796 last time out.. you didn’t include the altimeter setting so I just picked 29.95. From what I can see there was no gain so far from the tuner. After you got the engine sorted and removed the ribbon, which netted about 100 rpm, 7450 to 7550, increase in slightly lower density altitude conditions and the speed was the same at 38 mph. Yes the break away revs were higher at 7820 due to the higher rev limit but dropped back to 7200 once the impeller hooked up and slowly climbed up to a peak of 7550.

He said I would not see any gains at the moment on top speed and it is pretty much expected that the prop is going to need repitched, but we are going to start at 11/15 and see how that acts.

Firstly, I appreciate your candor on this!

Appreciate the info on the cost as well. I have the ribbon delete kits just have not installed them yet, but do have the filter and thats installed.

Copy that you like to spin wrenches, just trying to learn what is actually happening.

I have the new impeller here, but with the Holiday and busy lake season, my fun time has been put on hold. Putting in long hours on customer boats. I hope to get it swapped out in a week or so!

I could not give it full throttle from still with out cavitating, but roll into the throttle and then full throttle worked fine. Heavy turns it never cavitated. Today was fairly hot 94 54% humidity and 70 degree dew point.

I did forget to take the tuner with me. I will be going back out and data logging so I can send to Jesus Garcia for him to do some tweaking.

What you experienced is what I thought I told you would happen, with a lower pitch impeller there will be no hard hole shot, you have to roll into it.

You mentioned hard turns with no cavitation, try holding the boat into a max left or right turn where you are just basically going in a small circle at WFO, see if it cav’s there, then let the wheel go so as to go straight and see if it cav’s then. If it does and you keep reducing pitch the cavitation will get worse.

I honestly thought the hole shot would have been worse than it is, all I do is roll into and and pin it. It hooks at that point. I did full lock turns not 360 but 180 and it pulled out of those like normal. I plan on going out this evening and data logging. Getting close to seeing 40mph. I have a customer coming to look at an 2010 AR240 we are selling, so I have to work for a bit, before I play.

I was at Keystone lake a couple of weeks ago.. man, it was freaking Africa hot!!!!
