Adjustable Trim and Directional Reverse Bucket Install

How far does the nozzle trim up? Can you create a cool looking rooster tail???? That would be fun :winkingthumbsup":woot::cigar:
It goes slightly higher than stock. I'm going to adjust for a little more. It needs Roost.

I start my 2 week rotation at work tomorrow so the boat will have to wait for now

Yes make it roost!! New boat name should be "Got Roost?" :D

I want to be able to soak the twin engine guys :env:. Especially if @blacksapphirez gets another boat. I've tried to roost him but the twins seem to throw a higher roost off idle than the supercharged singles do. Payback must be served!

@SamCF boat freakin rips! You can see in the video below of him testing his new mods. Amazing steering response!

@SamCF the waverunners have either a reverse bucket locking mechanism, or a beefy reverse cable to prevent bending the reverse cable when throttling up while in reverse. In your setup with the extreme angle of the reverse cable, you might bend it in that situation.

I wouldn't say mine is at an extreme angle.

The jet thrust actually pulls the bucket into reverse. It hits the "stops" on the brackets and the thrust keeps it there. The cable pulls the bucket up and thrust pushes the bucket down. If the cable had to push, I could see it buckling.

A little clip from today. Adjusted the trim nozzle higher. It loses 4 mph trimmed up, but it's pretty funny to watch. I didn't get any drive by shots, maybe tomorrow.

Damn that's sweet
How much did this end up totaling and how long did it take?
From the first video it looks kind of complicated
I'd defiantly like trim on mine

All of the parts and prices are in the first post. It took all day, but I spent a lot of time drinking beer instead of working. It's really not bad. Drill a hole and move the shift linkage, mount the electronic actuator and run wiring, everything else is bolt on Yamaha parts.

So did you buy the bolts off the diagrams? Or was some re used

All of the bolts on your pump are reusable and will work with the other Yamaha pump parts. The brackets will need the associated bolts, washers and spacers.

@SamCF You actually made the exhaust sound good too which I wasn't sure was possible on these. I'll need to hit you up for what you did there.

After that video, I changed the exhaust tip to a Hardin Marine 4" straight cut. It sounds smoother and deeper now. Also has the option to run a silencer in the tip and a turndown to direct exhaust into the water for surfing.

Yo, this thread needs to be BUMPED!

How do we get a turndown surf pipe for our exhausts?!

Who's making the trim kits?! :)

I have some left over parts from my donor jet skis while doing an engine swap in my XR1800. The donor skis are an '05 FXHO and an '05 FX Cruiser HO. Both had the Quick Shift Trim System. I recovered the jet pumps and QSTS before I scrapped the jet ski hulls. I wonder if I'd see any benefit to adapting these to my boat. I think the biggest challenge for me would be to somehow reuse the cable operated system, and essentially locking it in to the desired trim level. A guy on the YJB forums did this exact mod, but he reported it did nothing to his XR, and he went back to the stock stuff, so that's my only hesitation to swapping on the jet ski stuff.

If you don't want them, I'll take a single setup. Would love to retrofit trim to my boat at some level. PM me details if you want to part with them.

If it was my boat, I would consider adding them. SamCF (Not sure why I can't tag him here @Julian ?!?!) seems to have some really good feedback on the system from the beginning of this thread. Worst case is it doesn't change anything and it was a waste of time. Best case is it makes it drive like a new boat. I'm guessing the total cost is just time, and some small hardware and such.

Again, I'll take a whole setup for one engine if you want to part with it. :D

Nah, I'm good. I'll hold on to what I have. I'll probably retrofit the FXHO ski jet pumps and nozzles onto my XR1800 during the off season. In the mean time, I need to figure out a way to control the trim adjustment. I don't have a trim tab actuator, so I need to figure out another solution.
