Last 2 trips out my engines were very slow to turn over, and on my recent trip this weekend I got the battery alarm. I saw my "house" battery was around 10.x volts at idle and "start" was high 11.x volts. These are the originals installed by dealer in Spring of 2022. I keep them on a NOCO, but given our Texas heat it's time to replace them. Way cheaper than a tow.
That said, it looks like my dealer installed two cranking batteries. Although they have a different looking label they have the same specs on the Interstate site. The questions I have is should have one cranking and one deep-cycle (house)? Are there comparable AGM batteries that folks here have used?
Thank you!

That's funny they gave you two different starting batteries... that's probably why the "house" is dead. House battery should be a deep cycle - I would go with a "dual-purpose" deep cycle that also has enough cranking amps to turn over the engines should the starting battery die. If you are running the radio while sitting with engines off that will kill a "starting" type battery because they aren't meant for that - deep cycles are. My starting battery has 1000CCA and my house has 800CCA.

I’ve been using an Interstate group 24 AGM dual purpose battery (24M-AGM-A battery | Interstate Batteries) for my start battery for a couple of years and it has been working just fine. I have a LFP house battery which you may or may not want to delve into that.

The fact you’ve gone two years on a couple of start batteries tells me you’d probably be fine with a group 24 deep cycle or dual purpose battery for the house battery. So two of those batteries mentioned above might be the ticket

If you want to stay with flooded lead acid and keep the price down you could go with these batteries.

Start:

House:

Sam’s Club also has Duracell marine cranking and deep cycle batteries ( Duracell Marine Starting Battery, Group size 24 - Sam's Club ) that are less money than the interstate batteries listed above. Since the Texas heat may destroy batteries after two years then perhaps just replacing batteries every other year might be a maintenance item.

Which NOCO charger do you have?

Question for everyone…looking to replace the deep cycle house battery for my 2013 242 Limited. Anyone use this battery from Duracell?

The biggest issue you will have with those is a group 31 is a big battery. If you have a tray or battery box, they may not fit. So measure and check. Otherwise, it's a better like any other.

That being said, that's a pile of money on something you may or may not take advantage of. When we bought our boat, I purchased two Duracell Group 27 Deep cycles and run a 1000w JL amp, speakers and pair of subs off of it the dedicated house, and the other is a dedicated starting battery. We use a Nogo dual bank to keep them topped off.

These waverunner engines have no need for a monster starting battery. It literally takes nothing to crank them over. Especially once you see the tiny battery they use in the waverunners with the same exact engine. So whatever you put on the start said will not make much difference, go cheap. I got over 5 years out of those original Lead acid Group 27's and just replaced them a season ago with the same exact battery. If it works, why change.

Good luck,

What do you have in the way of house loads?

Really only want to run my Fusion stereo while parked…nothing else, really. Like to anchor and swim for 3-4 hours.

ya this will be a non issue with standard deep cycle batteries then. For example, we have a fusion head unit, JL 1000w amp, 6 speakers and 2 10" subs. We will park for hours as well and not come close to draining that battery.

One group 27 is dedicated to the house, the other is dedicated to starting. So literally each side uses one battery unless we hit the yellow crossover switch. I do have a Noco Genius 2 bank 10a per bank onboard charger. And I may charge those batteries every other week. And we go out a few times per week.

These are Duracell Group 27 Lead Acid from Sam's club. They used to be under $100 each, and still are when on sale. I could replace these annually and not spend as much as those you posted. But I got 5 years out of the last pair, and see no reason why I can't do the same with this pair.

The key is proper care. Keep them topped and don't store them drained. Especially in cold weather. They sit in my boat in our pole building at -30f in the winter. Cold does not kill them. Cold kills a drained battery.

I have a pair of these in my boat lift, that I purchased for this boat. They lasted just as long, and they got charged twice, maybe three times per season. I swapped them at the same time just thinking they may be due as well, but were still performing.

Don't over think batteries. Especially if you are a casual user as you have stated. None of us are trying to rock the party cove all the time, even though we have.

Good luck!

A good addition is to put a Victron Smart shunt on your house battery so you can see exactly how much power you have used and the SOC or state of charge…
These can be found for around …$100 bucks.

These are configurable for any battery chemistry and any battery size and it communicates with your phone via Bluetooth and the app, super easy to set up and use.
