After one year in salt water my original transom straps look like crap and weren’t retracting. I swapped them out with BoatBuckles stainless version. I also ordered all 316 Stainless hardware from McMaster-Carr. These are awesome! Major upgrade I’d highly recommend.1329B403-F8CE-4091-81F3-D3A2C4B3B38D.jpegC4FC20D5-B206-41C3-9123-18E3CE0E467E.jpeg

Spray them often with Yamalube or similar to keep them like new.

@swatski mentioned a product a while back, after using it, I gotta say I agree with his recommendation. CRC 656 (or 6-56, depending on the vendor). Spray liberally, keeps things moving. I spray my boat buckles after every use. Pull the belt out entirely and spray all the metal down.

@sfadchi Thanks for sharing!

From the pic of the back of your license plate, looks like you will soon need to replace your wing nuts It was suggested to me to use SS wire ties, snipping off the excess. Did that on both my trailers and I’m rust free!

Yeah I'm going to slowly replace all the hardware with 316 Stainless. Amazing these galvanized trailers come with such crapy hardware.

I rinsed down the originals all the time and sprayed with Yamalube and fluid film quite often. They just didn't hold up. I hope these new stainless ones fair much better. I can say they operate much better than the old ones did even when new. I like that there is a release button and keeps them released until you lock them into place. Much more efficient than having to hold the handle down to get the buckle to spool out.
