no, the tubes they go in are sealed so if they are not in, no water can enter the boat. if the boat were to rock water could wash up onto the clean out tray but it would simply wash back down the open tube,
personally, It wouldn't bother me to leave it in a wet slip with the plugs out, if you leave them in your going to have more cleaning/up keep with them,
@veedubtek ... Excellent write up and superb photos. Nicely done.
Reminds of why Will @JetBoatPilot warned me a couple years ago that ...... the best "Medicine" was to learn to REMOVE the plugs when you come in for the day, and re-install them before you go out again.
I didn't ever think it could get as nasty a situation as yours turned out to be.
Well, looks like it's all OK now . Glad. Thanks again - Mikey Lulejian - Lake Oconee, GA
2023 255 fsh Yamaha. Pulled the impeller clean out plugs. Now they will not go back in and latch ? Tried silicone. They have been pulled out 4 times in last year with no issues. Both are NOT locking into place. Is there supposed to be O rings on these ? It looks like an O ring fitting at the top of the chamber that houses the impeller.

Weird, that this would be the thread to choose for this. Your stated year doesn't match what you put in your profile, nor does the boat you're telling us about. The plugs operate the same as your 2022 255XE, have you had similar problems with that boat?
yep you are correct about the mismatch. site would not allow an input for 255fsh. It was not in the drop down list. So I had to use the sport model. Its same boat, just the fsh has "Fishing" options. But the issue is with the same clean out system. This is first instance. of this problem. Boat does stay in water a long time some times a few months. Problem is most likely based on swelling of the rubber from absorption. Water is about 6 inches on top of clean out covers. An I see that upon deeper digging on this there is no "O" ring for this seal. Just the big seal at top. So it appears on many posts
