I showed those to my "Clean Freak" wife. I thought she was going to have convulsions. Glad you got them mostly clean!

Guys, when not running your boats do you leave the plugs out?

Or do you clean them, then put them back in?

What if you wet slip? remove them? Does that expose anything to potential breach/flooding/sinking?

no, the tubes they go in are sealed so if they are not in, no water can enter the boat. if the boat were to rock water could wash up onto the clean out tray but it would simply wash back down the open tube,

personally, It wouldn't bother me to leave it in a wet slip with the plugs out, if you leave them in your going to have more cleaning/up keep with them,

I wet slip mine with the plugs out. One day I opened the hatch to find a animal ( probably a mink or a muskrat) had made a nest in there.

Oh, man!

I just had the scariest flashback of The Captain and Tennille after reading your comment.:eek::eek:
Please don't do that again!

What do you guys use to clean the plugs?

Is there anything that works better to preserve the rubber gaskets (or whatever they're called)?

@veedubtek ... Excellent write up and superb photos. Nicely done.
Reminds of why Will @JetBoatPilot warned me a couple years ago that ...... the best "Medicine" was to learn to REMOVE the plugs when you come in for the day, and re-install them before you go out again.
I didn't ever think it could get as nasty a situation as yours turned out to be.
Well, looks like it's all OK now . Glad. Thanks again - Mikey Lulejian - Lake Oconee, GA

I use silicone gasket gel from the pool gaskets on mine. No issues so far.
