Looking for any other ideas before I pull the trigger on a replacement screen.
2018 242X, 12.3” Connext screen, after turning batteries on and ignition switch on there is a 2-8 minute delay before the screen turns on, it always eventually does turn on, I have never had it not turn on. Engines will start fine before the screen boots up, after the screen is on all gauges and functions are fine. The best way I can describe it is it’s like a older slow computer to boot up and turn on.

Is there any sort of software update from Yamaha to fix things like that?
Before I spend $2500 is it worth removing and taking to an electronics specialist to check connectors on board inside of the screen?
Any other options to fix it?
Thanks

Shot in the dark here… Have you tried removing all power from it for a while? Most of the time computers that are not acting correctly need a shut down, power off, then start up.

To clarify when the battery switches are off is there somewhere it can still get power? I assumed that killed all power? Certainly willing to try it and just unplug it from the back of the screen for 24 hours

I don’t know if there is some power getting there from the batteries or not, but unplugging the screen should get rid of all incoming power. It’s worth a try.

I assume it didn’t always take this long to boot up?

I have only had the boat since April, it has never booted quickly, had some battery ground/ electrical issues recently that I believe I have all fixed. No more errors or codes, last thing is the slow booting screen. May have always been an issue, unfortunately when I test drove the boat it was running on the water when we arrived so I can’t confirm it hasn’t always been like that.

Mmmmm I bet it was and I assume the original owner didn’t mention that? Not crumbing on you but a lesson learned there about showing up to a test drive with the vehicle running and warmed up.

Doing a re boot by removing power may, and hopefully will solve the issue. Especially since you were having all those alarms issues that you have since cleared up. The temp memory could be full, I don’t know exactly how the connext screen works, but it is a computer, and my first steps at fixing a computer issue is to shut it down and remove all power then re start.

Left it unplugged from the back for about 20 hours, plugged it back in, seemed to boot up much quicker, but started on the initial Yamaha revs your heart screen, Connext logo did not come up in the right corner indicating the 2nd step of startup. Let it sit for 2-3 minutes in that screen and no change. Unplugged again for about 20 min then reconnected, slow to boot again, but did finally boot fully and came on with no issues.

I hate to replace since it does work fine, it’s just slow, but waiting for it to boot up is annoying, and also dangerous because the blowers don’t start until that screen is on so we have been opening engine hatch to let it air for a few minutes.

if this helps of if anyone has had luck with repairs this is the info on the back of the screen:

Pretty easy to install a rocker switch for your bilge blowers and any other critical switching that may need to take place in lieu of the connext.

Another update, slow booting appears to be fixed. I did tune up and oil change yesterday and had trouble with it starting, I would then the key on, but when I pushed the push buttons to start nothing. I started digging around by the batteries checking things and I could move the main cable coming out of the start battery switch. I took that whole assembly off, almost every nut that holds the cables was slightly loose, the start cable nut was very loose. Starting issue fixed, screen boots up right when you turn batteries on, blower fan comes on, everything is working exactly how it should.

Glad you got it all sorted out!

Another case of weird issues solved by tightening loose connections!

Thank you for closing the loop!

Thanks for getting back with a fix - sometimes it's the simple things.
:)
