Came across a couple of vids this morning, one is testing DC to DC chargers, the other was about charging LiFePO batteries with an automotive style alternator.

These vids are NOT applicable to the alternators / generators in our boats as they are PMG type, or permanent magnet style, ours are always at full output with the excess or unwanted voltage / amperage being shunted to ground.

I knew that charging a LiFePO with an automotive style alternator was … not good unless it was set up for it.

Why there needs to be a dc to dc charger when running an automotive style alternator explained.

My son had the Renoogy DC to DC on this Van and it died has died twice, first time warranty replaced, 2nd was out of warranty so he is ditching it for something else.

Bummer….. So far I’m impressed with Victron Energy’s products.
