After Engine rebuild Port will not start without starter spray. Stays on 5 sec only. Timing issue maybe. Piston at TDC with cams pointing to oil marks. Any ideas?

Ought to be fuel related if it starts with starter fluid.

Sensor/harness connectors? Anything else that feeds the rpms /fuel map info like crankshaft position sensor?

Just guesses, but best of luck! Hopefully others with more experience can chime in and help!

Why did it have to be rebuilt?

I tried the camshaft position sensor, by unplugging. But no luck. Cant be fuel pump the other engine runs fine. Thanks for the ideas.

Rebuild was for overheating. Clogged water passages on head.

Each engine has its own fuel pump. Is it connected?

With the starter spray, is it running well for the 5 seconds and then konking out or is it struggling and then dying? How old is the fuel in the tank?

The fuel line is connected. Not sure if the pump is running. Like i said the other engine runs fine.

You could try switching the connectors from the known good fuel pump to the suspect fuel pump. Connectors are under fuel hatch cover.

Fuel hatch is a big pain to remove...How about i disconnect fuel line and put it in a coke bottle. I should see fuel pump what i crank engine correct?

Make sure all connections are made. The Wiring harness coupler 8

Just be careful. Have your fire extinguisher handy.

Make sure Wiring harness coupler is attached (step 8).

That might show some fuel flow but you will not know if the pressure is correct. And if you connect the good running motor to the one that won’t start that is a double check.

Check the fuse for both fuel pumps. In fact, check all of the fuses so you can cross that off your list.

Is the fuse in that big round cover on the ECM? I will re-check throttle body connector. Switching fuel line will not work..engine 2 would have to be running to pump fuel?

Key in on position energizes the fuel pump I believe, you could switch lines to troubleshoot as long as key for other engine is on the run position.

You will have to consult the owners manual for fuse location.

Just swap the electrical connections from one to the other when trying the other pump.

If the fuel line connectors are not securely seated now fuel will flow.

I’d suggest taking a break and sleeping on it...chances that the fuel pump went bad while it sat seem slim...likely a fuse, safety switch or that one last wire you forget to connect is the problem ;)

I assume this is a coil over plug ignition system. Any chance the harness/wires can be connected wrong so the firing order is off?

Duh. Good point. But hatch cover is not that hard to remove. Easier than trying to test the fuel pump relay in the ECM.

Not sure how you could switch fuel lines at either the engine or the pump. ??‍♂️ But you could swap the fuel pumps at the top of the tank. That’s where I’d start.

hope you figure it out.

I think I will sleep on it. That was good advice. This MR1 and I spent the whole weekend together and I need a break. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.
