Talk to me about Buffalo, NY

Small-ish update.

Been commuting to Buffalo since January now. I'm ready for that part of my existence to be over. 7.5hr drive, or a 7-8hr flight (1 connection min, and 45min bookends between airport and home). Not to mention the boys are getting tired of facetiming me every night. I, seriously, don't know how people maintain long distance relationships. This shit is hard!

On the good side though.......Indiana house hits the market on Monday. Just confirmed the movers for June 3rd. Also, had the family up here for Spring Break week. Toured the boys school, wife got to look around the community some. Entire family seems pretty upbeat about the move in general, so that's a good thing.

Still have to get the boat and pickup truck up here. Figure I'll make a drive one way a few times, and bring those up 'piece meal'. Truck will come up loaded with garage stuff like the workbench, and jack stands, and that kind of crap. Suppose I could tow the boat up with it when I come. Not sure the old girl would like 8hrs with that kind of load, but I might consider it.

Talked to an accountant about the home sale. Guess you don't have to pay taxes on the gains if you lived there for more than 2yrs, and it's less than $500k. SO.....good chance we're going to take that cash and pay off a crap load of stuff. Should make the transition to a single income a little easier on us.

Feel like there's light at the end of the tunnel now, just hoping it's not an oncoming train!
Just remember, life is a marathon not a sprint. Hopefully when this long distance stuff is done it brings your family even closer than it was before Buffalo.

agreed...I've been through a few of those staggered family moves. If the move is for the right reasons, it's worth the short term pain.

Well.....took ~30hrs to get an accepted offer on the house. Full asking price, no contingencies other than an inspection. Buyer is looking to close quickly, so we're hopeful we'll have closed before the moving van shows up on June 3rd!

The absolute best way to ruin a comfortable saddle.

I assume you mean getting them wet. These got power washed this morning between Louisville and Cincinnati. Good thing is they're all synthetic, and are just whatever seat came on the bike.

*edit*
Also, they made the trip OK. 1up racks aren't quite as confidence inspiring as I would like on an 8hr, 75mph trek, but no damage to bike or racks, so I can't complain too much!

In college my Fraternity used to take the trip from center city Philadelphia up to Buffalo for Oozefest. UB used to hold a huge mud pit volleyball tournament it was awesome. Not sure if they still do it, but if they do....its really a fun time. I got the opportunity to work within their engagement office for a short while, really neat school, I worked in the North campus and sometimes the South campus. I always wanted to get placed in the Downtown campus but it never happened. I do remember that during the winter there was tunnel access from building to building to prevent disruption of classes due to weather. Was a beautiful area. Wishing you all the luck, congratulations on the sale of the house and the safe trek to NY.

Yep, been there, done that moving to my new home as well. Things will get better.

Thanks man!

Mines not quite that bad. Fender are still intact. Just ran out of spares for the day.

According to BoatUS two new tires and wheels are about 30min out. $450. Good news though. $75 of that is reimbursable. Just need to do this 5 more times to break even on this years BoatUS membership.

When my pontoon trailer tires did that going on vacation I was able to get to a TSC and just buy tires/rims off the shelf and keep going.

Gateway tire in Wadsworth, OH had (6) of the tires I needed and sent two out mounted on new wheels. That got me the remaining 200-ish miles into Silver Creek, NY to the office. Should be good from here.

They didn't balance the tires at all, so I'll have to get that done before Florida trip next month; like I didn't have enough to do before then. New wheels aren't really my style, but they look of good quality and should serve the purpose just fine. $407 installed in the field. BoatUS is going to pickup almost $100 of that to cover everything except parts (tires and wheels).

Made it home. Finally.

Boat barely fits in the garage. New house has an 8ft door, which is awesome, but it's almost EXACTLY 20ft deep. Thing barely fits.

After today's events, I'm calling it a win though!

Heading north with this mess tomorrow. Lets hope there's far less drama than the last time I made this trip!!!

Don't worry I flicked each strap and said "That's not going anywhere" just to make sure it's all secure.

Truck has 191k miles. It's gonna be a ROUGH 8hr trip........Stereo doesn't work :(

Bluetooth speaker and some podcasts, Pandora, Spotify?
I have Spotify.

Suspect the lack of A/C and forced 2/70 ventilation will render a speaker (well, any I have on hand) mostly useless.

I have earbuds if I get desperate.
