Thoughts and demo rides of wake / towsports boats: Moomba Max, Axis A22, MB Sports

3,700lbs subfloor ballast. Pretty cool!

The new Kaiyen looks very Supraesque. Like a cheap SA.

It’s a really nice boat and comes with some nice features!

Can’t wait to check it out in person. If the size feels good I may be really interested in it.

I like it, but this one needs more color or something. Too much white for my taste.

The 2020 Moomba’s will come nicely standard equipped with features that were previously options!

Considering you get all of that for a relatively modest increase in price sounds like another great year for Moomba and Skiers Choice.

Cost increase of 2020 from last year:
Helix $940 - 1.6%
Max - $1600 - 2.5%
Makai - $2700 - 3.3%
Craz - $1500 - 2.2%
Mojo - $1300 - 1.8%

The 1.76 is a huge bonus. Runs a different strut and shaft angle so you can turn a bigger wheel. Just put an ACME 3145(16x13) on a 1.76 at 5k ft(Supra SL) . Huge improvement over the 16x15 that was on it.

Looks like they changed up the driver seat also. It is now more rounded off and looks like it wraps around more. I noticed this when the dealer sent me pics yesterday and compared to the 2019 boat builder site.

Max is left picture, Makai is right.

I can’t tell much of a difference in terms of wrapping the seat around for the Max. I can tell the base is a little different so it’s now height adjustable. The side profile and cutout appears the same to me which is good since I love the side cutout. Makes it super easy to turn around or drive sideways in the seat.

Guess I was referring mainly to the top of the seat. It's not square like the previous models. Same for the Makai. Looks like the side of the seat extends toward front of boat more with a deeper cutout. I don't know the word for it, maybe contour? Like those sport bucket seats.

Ah I see what you’re referring to in that pic.

It would be plenty big for that crew. I think the new Kaiyen will sell like hot cakes. It's literally a mini Makai minus 1,000 lbs ballast. I'm not sure if it will be offered with the 450 engine as an options since the Mondo could only come with the 400. Not that you'd need the 450 in that boat at sea level anyways. It will be interesting to see all the details and what's new for 2020. I love/hate this time of year lol.

Didnt I read it had 3700 lb of ballast?

@swatski I Def think yamaha is prices themselves out with their high end wake specific boats. Once I drove my new boat I just am not seeing too many advantages to buying say a 242x compared to say @haknslash Max. Swats I got that surf pic just for you and Hak to get motivated to get me some surf pics gentlemen.

What Yamaha guys are doing could turn out to be self-defeating for them in the long term, as those X boats they call Wake Series are simply not able to surf behind out of the box.

What I find striking is with the boats like your new Moombas you can just... go surf! No need to spend two of three seasons tuning the freaking thing to get a wake that can push you ropeless.

If I paid for an X model and then couldn't surf behind it to save my life I'd be pissed. I'm not complaining as I got a pretty good deal with mine as far as purchase price and wake quality now (after all the mods and tuning).

Granted most of the new wake boats due need extra weight but that's because they have to market the max occupancy instead of a little less storage and more sub ballast. But your right I had no experience with my boat. I hit 3 switches to fill. Then I hit the screen to turn on cruise control. Set it at the steering wheel. Then took off. And got a pretty good wave. Now imagine after I've had her two years. A polar bear could surf behind her when I'm done. Lol.

Yup. I was mentioning numbers that were from the rumor mill before they made the teaser video showing it comes with 3700 lbs subfloor :)

That is exactly what I mean. I was struck by your comment (in the other thread?) where you said something about being so tired after surfing for hours... (yeah, poor you! lol)

But what REALLY struck me with that comment was:

THIS WAS YOUR FIRST OUTING ON THE FIRST DAY WITH THE BOAT!!!

Damm...
