Thoughts and demo rides of wake / towsports boats: Moomba Max, Axis A22, MB Sports

That is exactly what I mean. I was struck by your comment (in the other thread?) where you said something about being so tired after surfing for hours... (yeah, poor you! lol)

But what REALLY struck me with that comment was:

THIS WAS YOUR FIRST OUTING ON THE FIRST DAY WITH THE BOAT!!!

Damm...

Also my homie was driving my boat when I was surfing. He had never been behind a surf boat before and had only ever driven the AR195. I mean not even 10 seconds behind it. Just told him to hammer the throttle the boat will do the rest.

Pics and videos up on the Supra/Moomba Facebook page of the surfboss pontoon. It’s actually making a pretty good wave.

Thing is that it’s not a pontoon. The hull is more like a flat bottom aluminum boat with a trihull bow shape. I bet it will beat you up on a rough day. The whole selling point would need to be the smooth ride of a tritoon, the space of a pontoon, the wake of a wake boat but what you get is only one of the 3 and not a combination of them all. Which begs the question....what’s the point?

The aluminum hull that makes a nice wake is a sell point IMO. That flat bottomed aluminum will take quite the beating as compared to it's fiberglass coutnerpart.

It will definitely ride like dammit in all but the smoothest water which eliminates the tri-toon benefits. Those floating platforms with 3 full tubes ride SOOOOO smooth over choppy water it's unreal. I love the ride and the interior space of a good tri-toon. Hate the trailering characteristics (giant sail), the transom setup in general (no swim platform, even with I/O drive), and the relatively low "fun factor" from them.

Wife and I were discussing upgraded boats the other day. We both agree that some form of bowriding "day boat" will be our next. Most likely another Yamaha in the 24ft range. We see ourselves venturing to the coast in the coming years, and doing a lot of trailering to other bodies of water. So something that tows easily, can handle some decent seas, and has a great rear lounging area is for us.

Anywho......back to surf boat talk :D

Yeah, that does sound like a Yamaha, lol. I'm with you.

@2kwik4u, I'm with you on the tritoons. I had 2 of them up to babysit them at a wooden boat show that we sponsor in McCall Idaho. The lake gets SUPER choppy on a busy weekend. Took a guy for a demo and with a Merc 150 rigged to a 23.5ft tri we were able to cruise mid 30s(5k feet ASL). I dared him to take a surf roller from a G23 at WOT. Boat barely felt it. He didnt even spill a drop of his bloody mary. He came back and wrote a check for it that afternoon. I'm just a mechanic and wasnt there to sell. Thing sold itself.

That being said, I dont see the appeal besides its ability to handle chop, drag tubes, and sit and drink on. Just doesnt get my blood pumping. Maybe in another 20ish years when I'm too broken to surf.

On a side note to @MattFX4 , I hadn't seen the new MB towers. I like them a lot. I think they may be made by the same company building Tiges E2 electric tower as the bases and arch have a lot of similarities. I reall dig the top corners. Square and angular and rounded on the inside. It doesnt seem like it would be aesthetically pleasing but I loved it.

To the other surf guys, had a chance to put about 4 hours on a new Xstar. Of course I never get pics because I'm busy driving or riding, but it was my new favorite thing. If I only had 180k to burn ??

Theres a video up as well on @wakeboatsurfing. They used little ripper kids so wave looks extra big. Theres some things about it that dont tickle me in the looks dept. If it truly performs at the advertised 70ish then I will turn a blind eye. I just hope the process dont creep up to the 90s in a few years like the R23, Axis, and NXTs. Seems like they all started with that "budget" mentality and are pushing 90k range after a couple years of upgrades.

Yeah I like it, except for the windows. Never been a fan of that style. It looks like it has a small piece of window on the side, but hard to tell without seeing in person.

I'm with you. I like full wraparounds. Super handy when surfing into the wind on a choppy day on the goofy side. I like how Moomba gets it done on the cheap. Most dont realize that the side pieces arent glass but rather some kind of plexi/lexan(never asked but give them a tap and you realize they arent glass).

Looks kind of like an Axis T-series boat with the rear side of the hull shaping inward sort of like a G does. The tower is not good looking IMO and the window side looks odd like it could be broken without that frame. Any interior shots?

No this is only one I’ve seen. It was leaked early on IG. Will see Thursday when it’s officially released. It looks like it may share characteristics with the Tige RZX hull. Tower does look boring, but my main complaint is the windows. Never liked the Supreme, Axis, Mastercraft style windows from a looks perspective. Maybe it’s a different story while actually using boat on water and they aren’t that bad. Who knows.

I'm 100% with on that front. They are EXCELLENT party barges. Neighbor and I have a verbal agreement that he'll keep the toon, and I'll keep the runabout. We usually anchor his and then spend the day running in/out with mine to tube/ski/board. Works really well.

Glad they make different boats for different folks, but I doubt I'll ever own a 'toon

Don’t think I’ve ever seen this before. Still shots from video but guy did a backflip and landed it. Boat is the new ATX.

To start at $71k, it's a nice looking boat. Really like that Bimini top and the seats on the stern.
