What's your favorite Bourbon?

Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Someone turned me on to it a couple of months ago. Fantastic.

Being from Philadelphia, and growing up a birds fan. I had to try this just to say I did and to keep the bottle with a bunch of my other Eagles things. I do not suggest getting it if you want something smooth. This turned out to be a great mixing bourbon, but not a sipper. At least I can say I tried it, however I will not be getting it again.

Found this at a liquor store in Lubbock. Pretty freakin smooth for 90 proof. Very tasty.

Picked up a bottle of Rabbit Hole Dareringer. I’ve overlooked Rabbit Hole in the past, but I won’t be anymore. It might make my shortlist of nightly go-to whiskey.

I’ve had it a few times. I just don’t like the price tag.

Claire and I are driving to Louisville for a military reunion and would like to visit a few distilleries when we are there. I would prefer small distilleries that make very good sipping bourbon over the more commercialized ones . As I am not a big bourbon drinker I would be willing to splurge on one or two excellent bottles. Suggestions are greatly appreciated.[flag][flag]

not really sure about the more small time, local distilleries in the area but Ive always held an interest in getting down there to visit the Michters Fort Nelson Distillery & Old Forester Distilling.. both in the downtown area and walkable weather pending, and Ive heard they're both solid tours w/ tastings.. && distillery exclusive bottles for sale if you're lucky! enjoy man

Hi John,

Depending on what you’re after, we have used Mint Julip tour in the past about 4 times and have hit most all of the distilleries in the Louisville/ Lexington area. If you’re interested in the distillery process once you see it a few times, you’ll get the jist of it.

if you want smaller, check out whiskey thief or maybe the old Taylor distillery. If you go to old Taylor, check out woodford reserve. Regardless of which distillery you hit you will have some good sipping!

Thank you all As i said I know very little about bourbon and in the past have only drank aged Jamemison. So this will be a new experience for me.

i know you said smaller distilleries....but, one trip there, we went out to the jim beam distillery and got to walk through one of their rickhouses. the smell inside is incredible. oh and i can still picture mila kunis standing in there. :)

Jeptha Creed has a great atmosphere. In between Louisville and Frankfort. Rabbit Hole is downtown and a very modern looking distillery. Just the sheer beauty of all these distilleries is well worth a drive . 4 Roses was another great one Take Pics

Being a WWII re-enactor with my son, I gotta tip my hat Lead Slingers Rye Whiskey. 1944 M1 garand and M1918 BAR

Father’s Day gift—wife and I took a trip to Ireland in the spring so now I have to have real Irish whiskey on the shelf.

That's one of the best I've ever had, and it was my father-in-law's favorite. He'd never spring for it himself, as he thought it was too expensive to treat himself, so we always made sure there was a bottle coming for whatever holiday or gift-giving day was on the calendar. One of the more distinct drinks in the mouth, great stuff.

Well we held our 56th OCS reunion in Louisville KY and of course we did visit two or three distilleries and the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory. Our sons and young granddaughter will be happy as got them engraved bats with their name and favorite team logo. Also came home with a bottle or two of bourbon. Well maybe more than a bottle or two. A Woodford Double Oak and a Wood Reserve, Buffalo Trace, Blanton's, Wellers Special Reserve, Weller Antique 107 and Jefferson Tropical and Jefferson Reserve old rum finish.

I have been learning the many different ways to make the old fashion. My go to bourbon happens to be Rabbit Hole Boxergrail rye whiskey 95 proof. I have also been using different bitters and combinations there of. For a sweeter taste I have substituted bourbon for cognac. For glassware I purchased a thicker 5oz rocks glass in order to keep drinks cooler. I’ll have to look for the dareringer. I’ll keep you posted. IMG_2298.jpeg

Yesterday was the Penny’s Proof release at Sagamore Spirits. The Penny’s Proof is an annual release of the MD sourced and made bourbon. The 3 pack of 200 ml bottles is one penny. You pretty much need to get in line at 5 AM and wait until at least 8 AM to buy, and it is limited to about 400 sets. (Not for everyone, but still easier than getting Taylor Swift tickets!)

It was also release day for the BIB, so got some of them and the Double Oak that they recommend for an Old Fashioned. Picked up a nice sized bar mat and some shirts too.

Today, reading this thread in its entirety. And I can personally attest Sagamore Rye makes a great old fashion!!
