Cool features but I agree, surfer was pumping big time. Boat needs another 1,000 lbs of ballast.

Yeah, but I wonder if 1000lbs more alone would do it. . . . . Definitely have to surf it before I'd even consider buying it.

Lol love how they turn in a circle to artificially build up the wave. I think my 192 makes a bigger wave if I turn in a circle. Nobody wants to surf in circles. Not impressed by their SurfPointe "technology".

You're right, surfing in a circle is not the ideal... With the minimal stock ballast it's pretty much the necessity of you want enough push to go ropeless. Even then it's barely adequate and its not pretty. However, as the rider you don't really notice that boat is turning... and any surfing is still fun. SurfPointe may clean it up a bit...?

It takes additional ballast and a wake sculpting device (i.e. wake wedge) to generate a wake that's surfable in a straight line.

Yamaha is being a bit deceptive about the surf-ability of their boats. If you look closely at all of their videos you can see how they use creative editing to make it look better than it is. In reality, the riders are pumping like mad to keep up and not able to do much else...

Pretty sure this video was shot where I Boat on Lake Allatoona. Their US headquarters is 15 min away in Kennesaw, Ga.

Turning in a circle is why the Wake Wedge was invented!

Has anyone ever taken the measurements and tried adjusting an earlier model boats nozzles to match Surfpointe? Any difference/benefit?

I was just thinking about this yesterday. . . . I vote for @jcyamaharider to test this in conjunction with the wake wedge. ; )

Nope not for me.. Talking with a dealer the other day and he said there is a major decrease in reverse steering with surfpoint.

F Y I Aiming a single nozzle off center on a Cable operated jet does create some obstacles , First the jet stream exiting the nozzle is constantly trying to bring the nozzle back to center . If you ever drove a p w c and broke a steering cable you learn this immediately. With 2 nozzles and one being out of true there will be a constant battle between the 2. One engine pushing slightly harder than the other will win the battle. so the angles will not remain constant , making the cables have tension between them and removing all the play from the nozzles, " go out and grab a steering nozzle and see for yourself how it has a lot of play . My Magnum A k system uses a second tie rod to remove the slop or play in the nozzles of the Ak boats. With this setup you could maintain a constant tow on one nozzle however I seriously doubt that the surf point idea is really a viable option for wake surfing more of a marketing idea. I personally do not wake surf but I would think it would make it more difficult to learn if this is how you proceed sort of learning to ski on some 1 by 6 boards tied to your feet with rope. I would also suspect the steering in forward would be effected I use my tie rod setup to place a small tow in on both nozzles to provide a better high speed tracking since my Magnum A K steering works at all speeds .

There is a thread on this last year or earlier in this thread where I did some testing. Yes reverse becomes a little reduced especially reverse steering and forward full left or right turns. And yes I did notice a 10% or so increase in wave steepness with the wedge and two of us were able surf at the same time without the wedge. One on each side...

How many turns did you put on each nozzle adjustment screw?

4 each side is where I left it...
Quick follow up:
We all know our setups have a lot of variables and can be sensitive to small adjustments, # of passengers, where they sit, ballast bag placement, wedge adjustments, even fule loads, etc.
That said today was by far the biggest most surfable wake we've ever created on our boat in two seasons on both the port side or goofy. The only change was 1/2 inch toe in on the nozzles vs 1 inch toe in from yesterday. Steering and handling are 99% back to normal and totally acceptable.

Definitely worth trying, easy to do and is free. I ended up at 4 full turns on each nozzel linkage connector to produce a half inch toe in.

For those of you that want to know, today's setup: center ski locker bag 60 to 80%, rear bags 100% on surf side 65% non surf side, 800 lb sack center of swim platform, 550 lb bag on floor in cockpit (on top of gas tank hatch), wedge, and 3 college kid passengers. 2 of us are goofy 2 standard so we have wedges for both sides and the extra bags are centered, passengers ride on surf side.
I'm leaving the half inch toe in as is, andwill be curious to see the 2018 setupswhen they arrive at the dealers.

I always get confused when people are talking toe-in on the jets. If you think of it as the same as toe-in on a car then that would mean the front side of the jets are toe-in causing the jet output to be angled out. However, I imagine we are talking about angling the jet output in towards each other which would mean that the back of the jets are toe-in (opposite of a vehicle toe-in setup). Technically I think when angling the jet output towards each other this would be a toe-out configuration (meaning the front of the jets are toe-out and the back of the jets are pointing at each other). Anyway unless someone corrects me I'm assuming we are angling the jets toward each other in a toe-out configuration (seems that only makes sense here). Not trying to be and anal dork about it, just been confusing for me cause I've seen differing toe-in/out terminology used on this forum for things like jets and fins. I suppose some of the confusion may be because toe-in/out maybe isn't even the right terminology to use in the case of jet nozzle angle?? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ On the other hand maybe I'm an idiot and nobody else is having this issue.

This just hurt my brain. . . .

"Toe in" on jets = jet streams "pointed in" towards each other (in the context of this thread)

Has anyone tried using different rpm's for each engine while surfing? I was out yesterday playing around on my stock 242 limited S and was running the starboard engine hard compared to the port engine around 10-12 mph. This naturally makes the boat want to track to the left, so you have to turn steering slightly to the right to offset. This directs some of the jet wash away from the port side. Just curious if anyone has played around with their set ups using this method.

Hum interesting idea! But I don’t think I can test that concept on an e-series speed control boat unless I try to control speed manually.

I have. I have an '16 AR240 with ballast. I would fill the port side and locker bags, have everyone on board sit on the port side and perform a gradual turn to port, then back the throttle off on the port side to help clean things up a bit... it worked to a degree... and I was able to go ropeless. I've added the wake wedge this season so it shouldn't be as necessary.

The one downside is it didn't seem to work with the Ridesteady. You can go into the settings and turn off the engine sync, but it was begging the port side for more throttle when my wife did it. I didn't get the chance to pilot it and test the theory myself last season, my wife was very pregnant and so I was lacking half my surf team and our season was short as a result... Justin with Ridesteady thought it should work in theory but I've not proven it for certain.
