@Canuckjetboater , fair points and fair considerations. I think all these factors should go into the mix. Even if you don't go with the third party program, knowing that option going in to speak with your dealer adds leverage...

My opinion on extended warranties is statistically they do not pay for themselves. There are times where the extended warranty would help, but statistically you won't be the one who needs it - it's a cash cow for the companies, not for the consumer (had a couple friends who worked in sales and the warranties pay high commissions so they push them hard). I've never taken extended warranties and never will. Since I've saved many thousands of dollars over the years not buying them for stereos, TV's, computers, fridges, stoves, cars, and boats, if I do need to pay for out-of-warranty work, I'm much further ahead and I'm still saving money.

As for build issues - my 2020 was made in February just before covid when everything was fine and the only issues I've had were minor. The passenger seat slide/lock wasn't working but that was a supplier issue and the dealer fixed it during the 10 hour service. The dealer scratched my gelcoat under the battery seat installing the batteries and fixed that at the same service. I found a few loose nuts and screws and tightened them myself adding loctite. That's about it so far...very happy with the boat.

Of course, @212s is correct. No insurance product statistically pays for itself. That is why companies sell them. That is how they make their profit. Important to recognize that every time you buy insurance you are paying to avoid the risk of loss covered by the policy (which statistically is less than you are paying for the premium).

You almost always have the option of accepting the risk of loss yourself and not buying the insurance. Certainly that will save you money. It is called self-insuring. Downside is that then you need to have the cash (or credit) available to pay for a loss out of your own pocket, should it occur. Nonetheless, a very viable option.

@212s ..... respectfully, my reply would be "it depends". On small appliances no. For technology laden big ticket items I'm more inclined to consider an OEM warranty if the price is right. I have taken warranties on two big equipment-laden cruisers and was ahead on both after significant claims. Got an extended warranty for an suv and about two years after the OEM ran out got $3,700.00 from extended manufacturer's warranty for a on board computer failure (cost of warranty $2,000.00) Took a Yamaha Extended warranty on the 2020 SX195 as got it for a good deal and was my first jet boat. It doesn't take much to go wrong with big ticket items to get your warranty money back. In the case of the last big boat we sold the American who purchased it could never have gotten financing (his words) without the fact that it had two years remaining on a factory extended warranty.....so, for me, "it depends".

So I just picked up my 2021 AR210 over the weekend. I had to drive 5 hours to a dealer that had one but considered myself lucky to find one. On Sunday I installed the Thrust Vectors and since it was a nice day I decided to drop it in the water for a little test run. To say I am disappointed would be an understatement. While the Starboard engine runs like a champ, the port side cavitates something awful at anything above an ideal. I called a dealer that is much closer to me that than one I bought it from and they told me to check the impeller for debris. When I crawled under the boat it looked as if the thing had been put together by a kindergartener. Nothing lined up and sealant was hanging out everywhere. Instead of messing with a two day old boat I just made an appointment to have the dealer fix it, but it is still a two hour drive. I truly hope this boat doesn't turn out to be a lemon because Yamaha's build quality went to shit in an effort to increase production to meet demand.

@usmc6175 Have the dealer go over the boat in its entirety, they should of done that before they gave it to you. If it is as bad as you indicate and you noticed it, they should have. I know it is disheartening, but give a chance, stay positive. Tell the dealer to get it right and give everything a solid once over and you should be out boating soon in a solid boat.

You should look over everything with magnifying glass right now and make a list of everything you want them to look at and resolve, since they are a bit of a distance away from you.

@HangOutdoors thanks for the advice and I an way ahead of you. The engine purrs like a kitten on start up so I don't know that the dealer would catch the issue without putting it in the water. luckily the "local" dealer was able to get it in quickly and I have a retired father who doesn't mind road trips. I will let everyone know how it works out. BTW the guys and Grand Pointe were great to work with and seemed knowledgeable.

I've seen two different posts on FB by 2021 owners where one of their motors is vibrating badly in the last 24 hours. Not sure if that's an issue with the plugs, something on the impeller, or if Yamaha had some serious QA issues with these motors.

@anmut I not sure it is a motor issue for my boat. Hopefully the dealer can get mine straightened out quickly.

2021 SX250. I've gone over it pretty thoroughly since picking it up 2 weeks ago. So far all I have found are that the helm cupholder drainage hose wasn't connected, so it would have drained into the helm compartment if something were spilled in it. Probably wasn't fully seated on the barb and just fell off. And have found a screw for a wire loom retainer near the batteries was pulled out from the fiberglass. Possibly from overextension when the batteries were installed.
Both were easy fixes.

Any sealant hanging in the intake will cause cavitation even a very small piece of fishing line or weed can do that, or the motor may not be lined up correctly you can check that using a small straight edge on the coupler behind the boat many posts about that process in the search engine, as for lesson number one if you can do it yourself forget going to the dealer if at all possible now it's a waiting game and a guessing game.

Post some pics so we can see how bad it looks.

It’s possible that you had picked up some debris which was causing the cavitation that fell out when you put the boat on the trailer.

I believe the boats are test drove at the factory so I’d be surprised if they let it out the door unuseable.

When I picked up my 2021 Yamaha 195S in December, the salesman started the SVHO engine and it stalled. He had to give it throttle to keep it going. He said it is common when starting cold with that engine. I finally prepped the boat this weekend and started her up and it stalled. The tank was almost empty and I don't know if it came with 87 or 91. I just filled it up with 91 and hope to run it this weekend. Has anyone else had this stalling issue with an SVHO engine?

Hopefully it just had bad fuel in it it is electronic fuel injection and the computer makes all the necessary adjustments for you it should not stall when cold.

There are many other posts where folks have had their 1.8 liter engines stall when starting from cold, my TR-1 engines will sometimes stall right after starting from cold either on the trailer or in the water.

Remember, your propulsion system is always making thrust when in the water. If you give it throttle to try and keep the engine going as your salesman did the boat is going to try and move. So be careful when giving it throttle in the water while at the dock.

There are several reasons why this can happen, the most common is a significant change in ambient conditions from time the engines last ran. When that happens and you do get it to fire up, just let it idle for at least 5 mins and the ECU will use the various sensors to re set the map for the ambient conditions.

I don’t think you will have much of an issue with this.

Well good thing I called Yamaha and asked about the warranty. I currently have no warranty on the boat because the dealership hasn't done a warranty release yet telling Yamaha I own the boat. The guy I talked to said that I will be hard pressed to be in their system by my Monday service date. The closer I get to the start of the season the harder it is going to be to get in to have the work done. Just getting better by the minute!!!

The 5 minutes you are talking about, are you referring to when it's still on the trailer? I wasn't sure how long I can safely run the engine out of the water without risk of overheating and/or damage.

Never run your engines for more than a few seconds while not on the hose or in the water. I fire mine up on the trailer to see if they will start while staging before going to the ramp. But this is briefly. Don't want to launch with a dead engine, at least that is how I do it. If I need to idle them I wait till they are in the water.

As hangoutdoors says don’t run them too long without water. The manual states no more than 15 seconds without water. That being said, if you run them on the hose, be sure and start the engines first before you turn on the water. If the engine dies after you have the water on, turn off the water first before attempting to restart the engine.

And when you go to shut the engines off, turn off the water first then turn off the water. Then rap the engines a couple of times to 4000 rpm’s to blow the water out of the mufflers. All of this in the owners manual.

When I change my oil I run the engines for 10 mins each on the hose to warm up the oil.
