Anchoring system for overnight boat camping

I've tried the Anchor Buddy(bungee) in deeper water and have not had good luck with it. I'm not sure as to why but I can't get the anchor to hold while in current. I think it might be because there's not consistent pressure like with the rope but not sure. I'll keep trying occasionally but would love to hear from others and their experiences with it in deeper water.

Just bought a Mantus and will keep it for the primary camping anchor - probably big and overkill but everyone seems to like it and it sets. I'm still a little unsure how to use the anchor buddy effectively. My thought is to have anchor buddy and regular line both tied to the anchor and during the day when I know the weather and am comfortable have the anchor buddy be the "active" line (the other line having a lot of slack) which would allow me to pull boat into shore and access it easily and then at night to drop the anchor buddy and make the normal rope the main line and tie it on so that I can negate the sway that happens in the wind with the anchor buddy. (Also obviously always having a tie to the shore that is consistent). Thoughts?

Thanks for all the replies - I'll look at the apps. I'm assuming you leave one phone in the boat and then one phone would receive warning that is with us in the tent? Only problem with this is it eats up charges with 2 phones...

I use a Mantus anchor with the anchor buddy system. Forget about the “anchor buddy” brand and go to an industrial retail store and buy a minimum of 50’ of elastic rope . (or whatever it’s called). It will take some practice of where (distance from shore) to drop your bow anchor but you’ll get it. Drive to shore and attach a 200’ length of 1/2” floating rope to your boat stern. Have the wife feed it out as you drive out to set the bow anchor.I use about 30’ of 1/4” galvanized chain- attach 50’ of 3 strand rope to the chain. At the end of this rope attach it to the bottom hook of a floating buoy. On the top hook of the floating buoy attach a 10’ piece of 1/2” rope with a spliced loop on the end..Put a small floater on this rope so you can hook it the next night to put your baby to bed. Attach the 50’ 1/2” bungee rope to this rope attached to the top of the buoy.
Get the wife to pull you to shore as you set the anchor and feed out the bungee. Once your stern hits shore tie the stern rope off on a tree with tension. Now simply tension the bungee to a good pull and tie it off on the main bow cleat.
Learn how to tie a correct cleat hitch so it does not slip. Exit your boat untie the stern rope and watch your boat head off shore. When the tension is off the bungee( or almost) re-tie the stern rope with no slack. With a little practice you will get this down pat. If your worried about the anchor skidding attach a downrigger ball to the end of the chain where the rope rode attaches .
In the morning pull your boat in, unhook the stern rope, pull yourself out and unhook the bungee from the mooring ball. B-Dee B- Dee and that’s all folks. Happy camping!!

The anchor that come with our boats, The sliding ring along the shank, what people are calling Danforth, is not a Danforth. I think it is Seachoise. This POS. View attachment 125037 Get rid of it as a primary anchor, it will drag. I purchased an 8# Danforth style fluke anchor and did a minor modification to the stock to fit in the anchor locker.View attachment 125038 It has 8' of 5/16" galv. chain attached. It has never dragged on us. The seachoise is a stern anchor for the beach now, I will never trust it for anything else. For overnight camping, you want to set it and forget it. I might just say buy an overkill anchor, big and will not fit into anchor locker. I am pretty sure my Yamaha will not drag my 16# Danforth with 10' of chain, that came with the sailboat and is too small for that job. Also get an anchor watch app. I use Sailsafe. You will need to leave one phone on the boat, but it will notify you if your boat moves outside of the set perimeter. Small Boat Anchoring - BoatUS Magazine

Mostly light to no South wind last night. Only one brief blow from the North before dusk. Anchor Pro app.
