Charleston Cooper River Run up to Pinopolis Lock May 20th 2017

Humm... @Andy S have you seen this from your backyard? You'll notice there are 4 parts.

That trip was on my list of things to do when I had my Yamaha but I never got it done. Now with my Cobalt the trip will have to wait until I have some type of jet boat or ski to make the trip, there are to many shallow spots for me to risk it. The map below has the distances they traveled, Granby landing is directly across the river from Rosewood Landing where they left from. Since you guys made it from Myrtle Beach up the river and back to Charleston in a day, I believe you could easily make it from Columbia to Charleston in a day.

A run that I did do twice, once in my Yamaha boat before I traded it and once years ago on a ski was from the dam at the eastern end of Lake Murray all the up to the dam at Lake Greenwood. Even in a ski this trip can only be done when the Saluda river is at a higher than normal level. There and back is 104 miles which is doable in a day. Again this is a trip I would not do in my Cobalt, to many shallow spots even when the river is up for me to make it.

Is anyone doing this trip this spring? Let me know. Thanks W

@Wesley D ..., @robert843 and @Andy S normally put it together at the start of the boating season each year. Normallybstart talking about it closer to spring..
@Wesley D keep a what out because there is a high probability for a 2018 trip. Looking at my work schedule for May, the only weekend in the whole month that works for me is May 12th/13th. Once we get closer to setting a date and if the 12th doesn't work for the majority I will still probably make a run on the 12th, it might work out we have 2 trips this year, time will tell.

Meghan & I will be getting married on the 26th of May, so we may join y'all on that time slot if we can get free. @Andy S.

I may tow up and join this. It seems fun and get some hours on my ski. I’ll watch for new dates and see what happens

@Andy S and I usually work the dates out in January but based on his post above that will likely be a short conversation this year. I would bet him and I do the May 12th date. I know several others who have joined in the past have wanted to do this on a holiday weekend if someone can't make those dates and would like to throw together a secondary date by all means do so @Andy S and I will assist you if needed.

@robert843 ... we normally seem to run into either mothers day or graduation that make rooms hard sometimes.. any idea if the 12th is the graduation weekend? And ...... (whispers so @Qhorse572 wont hear).. when mothers day again?

Looks like in 2018 the 13th is mother's day.

Congrats on upcoming wedding @ACrews. You know shes a keeper when she'll ride on the back of your ski for 100+ miles.

As much as I love this trip that weekend maybe tough for me. The moms and 90 year old grandmothers were not to happy with Brittany and I a few years ago ;)

I would definitely like to make the run back down to Hilton Head from Charleston again like @JROD and I experienced this fall. The distance is a bit further then the ride from Charleston up the Cooper but not as far as the trip that some us made last year from Myrtle to Charleston and then up the Cooper. IMO it was just about the perfect distance. Enough time on the water scratch the itch but not too much to be draining. Beaufort was a great stop for lunch and such as well. The difference in this run is you get a little of everything. Super calm ICW to more open water traveling across a few sounds. Man how I've grown to appreciate the coastal waters of SC. All those runs are just good times.

I plan to do Hilton Head this year as well. I have decided to do the great loop but I'm going to split it up over several years and do some of it over weekends to try and split it up. I hope to complete most of the Chesapeake down to Jacksonville Fl this year.

@Ramblin Wreck Thanks man! Oh, she's a tough one. She endured a 70+ mile ride this past weekend thru downtown Jacksonville, FL in the mid 60's with me.

Long story short...my wetsuit will arrive this week. Lol
