Yes you would be fine to make a marina reservation now. I would wait a little bit to see what type of hotel discount someone from the group might have access to, otherwise if you have a specific hotel you want to stay in make the reserve.

@bronze_10 I would just make sure what ever you book is under a cancel able rate. Just in case they are calling for bad weather. I have been very lucky on the May trips and always had great weather even last year the weather was nice expect for the darn wind on the lake that closed the lock.

I have been following this thread and hesitant to speak up for fear of jinxing things. There is a small chance that I may be able to tag along on this trip. For those who have not read it already I am moving to the Columbia, SC area before the end of June if all goes well. Perhaps as soon as the end of April depending on a few things. Hoping that if I can make it this year y'all will accept a last minute Yankee addition. If so I will have space and be in need of a guide to point out things along the way. Payment for guide services would be in food and spirits

My daughter loved the USC campus and we loved the area on top of it working logistically for us. Oh yeah my daughter just got a USC acceptance letter yesterday so everything is falling into place.

As it stands now I have a coworker that has a townhouse in Myrtle.. we will go down after work on Friday night and stay there as long as he can get permission for me to park the truck and boat somewhere close.... then we will get up on Sat and head to the boat ramp... I will have 6 family members and @chess said they are gonna come... I told him he can ride on our boat but I am trying to get him to man up and bring his boat!!

We r going to make reservations at city marina and holiday Inn express on sunday.. an I am ready for warm weather.. then I remembered that I have a lot to do to the boat.. install vhf... install chart plotter... install new transducer..!! Along with a long list of other stuff including starting my garage next week! Gotta get moving!

Ok.. there may be a problem with this date... my wife and I were going to reserve a room for may 20th in charleston. But all the hotels except the marriot are booked.. and those rooms are 369 per night..

We checked :
-Holiday Inn express ash river.. nothing avaliable in line.. when we called the reservation line they said there were only 8 rooms avaliable. We are holding two incase the dates hold and we need them. We can always switch dates.
- Hilton gardens... nothing avaliable
- comfort inn.. nothing avaliable

When we called they said 4 other hotels in the area were booked.. lodging on the 20th may be an issue..

I currently have four rooms booked in Charleston 2 in North Charleston and 2 in Mt Pleasant I plan to cancel one or the other. I will have my Lincoln Navigator L down there so I can help shuttle people if we need to stay somewhere else besides downtown. The hotel I'm probably keeping is the below one unless something changes.

We are booked at Marriott Spring Hill Suites at Mount Pleasant.. The rooms are $227.00 a night with Marriott Rewards. We stayed here last year and it was a great place with plenty of parking. Also has breakfast included. We booked 2 rooms today. The link is below.

Once we finally got a reservation at the holiday Inn express we were able to secure more rooms for @chess and another friend.. we now have four rooms there but it was like pulling teeth to do it.

For those that plan to start in Myrtle Beach Waccawache is a full service marina if you feel you need transportation from city Marina in Charleston to hotel outside of downtown you can always slip your boat Friday night they have secured trailer parking you can leave your trailer in and have someone drive a vehicle to Charleston then participate in the river run portion. I think that's my plan right now is I will slip my boat Friday detach the trailer and leave it and have someone drive the truck down and I will either pick them up at City Marina or Remley's Point.

There is also a large unsecured lot you could leave the trailer at Saturday morning for free as long as you feel like you could lock it securely I have seen trailers left there for months in the past.

@chess if you wore a Clemson shirt you would not get ignored by my boat as my 8 year old southern belle of a daughter is well trained to greet all kinds of people sure she would yell a greeting across the water to your boat it would probably be something like "Boo Clemson Sucks!" But she would say something lol. In all seriousness though if my team just won the national championship I would sport there gear everyday. Too funny as that sounds like my daughter. My mother-in-law tried to put a red dress on my daughter for a family Christmas party this past year and she told her she didn't wear red. She could pick either green or white but she wasn't allowed to wear red. I was a proud father that day. Hahaha
