Charleston Cooper River Run up to Pinopolis Lock May 20th 2017

So I just talked to my wife about it cause I know she would see this eventually.. if the trip starts at Myrtle then we are in at this point... we will probably be taking my mom who is 80 years old... and has only been on our boat in lakes... she doesn't do hot temps well so there is a chance we will run with those out of Myrtle to Charleston and then depending on the temp we may have to break off and go to the hotel instead of up the river and then join the Myrtle guys for the trip back on sunday. That time of year it's normaly not that hot so it is likely we will be able to do the river portion too...

Of those staying over night in charleston are u planning on using city marina again? I think my wife would like to stay at the holiday Inn express again... we splurge on these few trips we get to do..

I would say at this point I'm 100% sure there will be some people starting from Myrtle.

There are place you could stop to Fuel along the way from Myrtle if needed. Its probably around 70 miles from Waccawache Marina to Isle of palms to give you an idea.

@robert843 in case the lock is closed, how many miles do you think it would be round trip back to Charleston for fuel? I'm not sure I could make it on a single tank without a reserve if I couldn't get through the lock onto the other side to top off. Also, parking overnight wouldn't be an issue at Waccawache would it?

@bronze_10 The Marina I would recommend launching from in myrtle is Waccawache and it has bathrooms. There are Facilities in Mclelanville if needed which is a little over half way to Charleston and then again in Isle of Palms. you will likely need to refuel in Isle of Palms any ways so that will probably be a scheduled stop for those who launch from Myrtle. I have booked @Andy S and I at the Courtyard in Mt Pleasant its under a discounted rate for $154 a night I can probably get a few extra rooms there on that discount but that is just a tentative plan at this point as I can cancel it up until 5/18.
Keep the boats at city marina like last year?

You can park at Waccawache over night. In fact its probably the only ramp I would say to do it at down here. If the lock is closed we will plan accordingly and only run so far up the river probably not all the way to the lock may the Strawberry train tracks raft up and have lunch and then turn around and head back.

For the Waccawache Marina to Isle of palms section is that all inter coastal or do you go out into ocean? Has anyone played with Navionics to chart the trip? i love this stuff and it will give me something to spend WAY too much time on instead of working all day...

No ocean you will go through Winyah Bay which is a large open body of water in Georgetown SC it can be glass smooth or really choppy depending on the wind but nothing none of our vessels can't easily handle.

Um ya, this looks fun. closer for me to drive to Myrtle than Charleston anyway from Raleigh...... :) :) :)

I plugged in 30 MPH and 6 GPH - is that too fast or too slow? I'll adjust GPH based on average speed as needed.

IS IT MAY YET.....

45 miles of that 63 miles you will be able to run as fast as you like. Last year @Ramblin Wreck and I ran 45 mph all the way back to Myrtle from Isle of Palms.

I'd be in my SX190 (not sure about load) so I'd be about 40 WOT (closer to 35 with load)... would i be holding you all up too much if I joined you?

No you would be fine we were in a rush getting back it was a college football Saturday lol. On the way there we cruised around 30-35 mph

@Ramblin Wreck and @ACrews I have already offered @robert843 that if he takes his ski on this trip that his family can ride on my boat, I'm now extending this offer to both of your families too but as of right everyone needs to be a little flexible with the plans. The flexibility is because I have invited a friend and his wife to ride with Cindy and I on my boat, they are 75% committed but won't know for sure until mid-March due to his work schedule. If my friends can make the trip then I can only take 2 out of 3 families (Robert's, Jeremiah's, or Alan's) but if my friends can't make it then I can take all 3 families on the trip. When I say families I'm assuming it is just your better half and your kids. If it ends up that I can only take 2 out 3 families I'll let you 3 figure out who rides with who.

I know we have plenty of time to figure out this kind of details but I wanted to throw this offer out there so we all can start figuring things out.

For the folks that are boating down to Charleston I would think so, it is convenient to a number hotels, restaurants, and downtown Charleston.

If there is a big enough group going to be docking their boats at City Marina on Saturday night, then instead of putting my boat back on the trailer Saturday night and staying in Mount Pleasant I will also dock at City Marina at stay with the group.

My plans are flexible depending on what the group does.

I'm not sure who would be coming with me at this point, but if we get closer and I have space all are welcome that fit in my boat.

I am trying to guilt trip @chess to drive down and go too..... if they bring their boat I will have room on mine.... if they ride with me I will have room for one else more person.. anyone is welcome..

@Andy S @robert843. Have you guys decided that you both are gonna start in & end in Charleston or is Robert going to try to start from Myrtle Beach?

As much as I'd like to make a weekend of it, I don't see it possible right now. I don't believe Eli will do very well on such a long ride right now. If Meghan's mom/dad can keep him, she will join me & we'll join y'all in Charleston for the night. If they can't keep him, I'll try to come up late Friday night, stay close by y'all, ride, then come home Saturday night.

@Andy S I really do appreciate the offer of letting them ride with you. Shout out to @Eric Ballard for extending a blanket offer as well.

@ACrews right now I'm unsure which way I'm going. I'm pretty sure @Andy S if planing to start and finish in Charleston.

@ACrews I would imagine some will launch in Myrtle as it logistically makes since and allows for more time on the water, but most will probably launch in Charleston. As long as someone else is in, I'll be riding the ICW down that morning from Myrtle and will be in the water near Remley's Point at 10am to meet up with the larger group per @robert843 OP.
