I walked around my boat the other day and my fuel cap was open. Not sure how long. Should I worry about rain getting in the fuel?

Not sure how long but I’m on E
Well shoot… someone stole your gas! How far open was the cap? Was it angled down or sticking straight up?

I’ve pondered how to secure that cap against vermin such as saboteur’s and thieves.

Perhaps time to put a motion light up that shines right on the fuel fill area.

Last time I found my fuel cap open I was on the water in a marina and some ass hat decided to fill my tank with water from the hose but forgot to close the cap when he was done.

I hate thieves! We have never had a problem in our area but as more and more people move in and buy waterfront property, I do worry about it, I keep my boat stored as high as possible and do have a camera to monitor. Too bad there is not an option for a locking gas cap.

I had someone siphon gas from my boat when parked at the secure(?) storage facility. I drilled a hole near the outer edge of the gas cap into the filler housing then installed a tamper resistant screw to deter thieves. The stainless steel screw is a round head torx with a center post that requires a torx bit with a hollow center. Not fool proof but a deterrent.

So the screw holds the cap shut?
