While flushing my boat my water hose became disconnected and the boat ran for about 2/3 minutes and is giving me a "check engine" alarm. Says take to Yamaha dealer. Is there a way to clear the alarm, seems to run with no issues and water is circulating.

You jut have to cycle batteries and start 3 times wihtout the overheat and it should clear.

That sounds similar to mine when I had an over temp alarm caused by a clog. I disconnected the batteries for a few minutes and restarted and the alarm went away.

I saw a while back where @Julian had posted this procedure for when you get an alarm and or message that won’t clear after the condition, in this case an overheat, has caused it has been fixed and the engine is running normally.

Engines off, batteries off
Batteries on, start engines

In a way this is how your vehicles ECU trouble codes work, such as if your gas cap is not secured properly the ECU will throw a check engine light. Once the gas cap is secured properly it takes several cycles of the ECU looking for the problem and it not being there before it will turn the check engine light off. And as with our boats ECU, that trouble event will be logged in the ECU memory.
