Mixing batteries

Our engines are easy to turn. You are indeed better off with two identical batteries for ACR use. Why not use 2 Deep Cycle or 2 Dual Purpose batteries? That way they charge about the same, and will give you better performance if they deep discharge.

I've had one of my batteries get so low that the amp for my tower speakers shut off. I did a test and switched to just that batter to start the engines. No problem. You really don't need a battery designed for CCA for these engines. I switched to two deep cycles years ago.

This was very helpful information. I’m returning the 24s I bought yesterday and getting the 27 Deep Cycles. They meet the 675 CCA recommendation too. I moved my batteries back as far as they would go to make room for fatsacs. So my only concern will be if they will fit back there. We’ll see.

Watch the write ups on battery trays. I have seen a couple guys use HDP to make a sliding battery tray, that allowed them to mount two or more battery boxes, do their wiring and then slide/lock the whole setup as a tray back in that corner. It was super slick.

I had not done that due to the perceived amount of times I may pull those out. So far, so good. But if you plan on pulling your batteries annually, designing a tray may be very useful. I could see getting mind back further and opening up that space for storage too.

I slid mine as far back as I could, but to be honest, they didn’t need to go back that far. Plenty of room for the sacs. They really don’t extend farther than the cushion opening anyway. So, I may take this opportunity to pull the batteries up a bit.

Will these do? They are not dual purpose that Yamaha recommends but they do meet the recommended 675 marine cranking amps. Should I get one starting battery and one of these or are these okay. These are 12v.

FWIW, I put an Interstate AGM dual purpose deep cycle in for my start battery. Interstate advertises that the AGM dual purpose has the same reserve ah rating at the deep cycle only. The interstate deep cycles are about $170 if memory serves and the AGM dual purpose was around $215.

Thanks! The manager told me the government bought all their AGM’s and sent them to Ukraine, so I just bought two of the above. I realized afterwards that I walked away without a starting battery or dual purpose. Wondering if I need to return these or will they work.

As @biffdotorg stated, these motors don’t require that much CCA, but if it was me, I’d see if you could just trade one of them for a standard marine starting battery and have that dedicated to starting duties. Just my two cents.

I agree with you. That’s what I’m going to do then. Thanks!

Well, they didn’t have the dual purpose or starting batteries, so I have what I have. Ha!
