My Bennington is losing battery.

I will check to see what voltage it’s putting out and maybe think about replacing the charging system before buying a new battery. So should I get a starter battery or a deep cycle ?
If the output voltage is in the mid-13’s to low 14’s at about 1/2 throttle your charging system is good. I’d check both the output voltage & test the battery to see which one is the issue before replacing anything. If it is the battery is use something similar to this

Are you just making a short trip to where you anchor or do you cruise around a while? If it’s just a short trip the charging system may not have enough time to recharge the battery and after a few outings the battery just gives up.

So if it is the battery I can buy what you linked and yes it for both starting and radio without setting a dual battery system up?

The lake we are at isn’t too big, it’s only 272 acres of water. So maybe if i do get this new battery i just need to drive around for a bit. Around full throttle the gauge says it’s around 12-13 but again the boat is old and so the full throttle is like Fast FAST

Yes that battery would work without having to get two separate batteries. The voltage seems low but my boat only puts out 13.8v while cruising.

Again, your engine is not going to charge the battery fully. You either have to use a portable or onboard charger hooked to 120VAC or a solar set up like @zipper suggested, or if 120VAC is not available where the boat is kept you’re going to have to pull the battery and charge it.

If the volt meter on the boat is not accurate then pick up a quality multimeter and check the voltage with that.

So far you have not said which outboard you have on your toon, so let us know that as well and any other information that might be pertinent.

50 Hp Johnson that came with the original 98 bennington. I believe i’m going to buy the better that was suggested and hook it up to a solar panel like zipper was saying!

2-smoke or 4-stroke? Power trim/tilt or manual?
