Previously I've bought the kit that has the filter and the oil. This year, I had some extra oil and just needed to buy 2 qts which I found at a great deal. But now I have no clue what filter to buy! Any tips? 242 LSE 2018

All of the above are fine choices. I'm running Fram Toughguard 3614 - better quality than the cheap originals.

Yes but it's better quality than the cellulose filter used by Yamaha.
The stock filter is fine and works well enough, but why pay more for less?

Just wanted to confirm the recommendation / fitting here of the Fram Toughguard 3614; this is for the 1.8L motor, correct?

Just wanted to update my notes to have an alternative to the K&N HP-1002.

Everyone's always looking to reinvent the wheel. The OEM Denso works and works well, been using them in a highly stressed, over-boosted SHO engine for over a decade without issues and the oil always looks good when it's changed. But if you absolutely have to use something other than OEM for some reason, go with a WIX 51348 (or NAPA Gold 1348). 🍻

Best I could find OEM was 25 bucks. Quite the difference.

Is that for one filter ?

There are lots of oil filter tests online that basically look at construction and total amount of filter media. I’ve yet to see a test where absolute filtration and efficiency have been tested.

20 microns is about the best you can get with a full flow filter.

From a construction aspect the frams are the worst. Many filters looked at had rust inside.

As soon as the amsoil filters are available again I’ll be running those. This filter is for the TR-1 engines. These filters are 20 micron absolute at 99% efficiency.

Here is an oem filter box.

I used those other vehicles listed that use this filter yo cross reference to other filters, specifically the amsoil filters. I’ve also been tempted to install an amsoil high bypass filtration system.

I always buy the kit (usually on sale or with a coupon code) but Partzilla and boats.net have them for $19/ea solo, the Wix/Napa are around $13-14. Im not trying to be insulting but that's pennies for what we put into these boats and skis during a season. I go through a full tank (18gal) a day in the ski and a full tank in the boat over a weekend many times over the summer.

I like k&n because they have a nut integrated onto the body which allows me to remove the filter with a box or socket wrench instead of an oil filter wrench. You can also get them in chrome.

stock is supposed to be better because the filter is supposedto be lamb skin. I’ve torn a few apart some are lamb skin/lamb skin like some are not. All over $25 each. I read that Mazda sells the same oil filter under the denso label but never verified this.

No offense taken. But in my eyes. If I can save a few dollars, why not?

Sure they work fine otherwise Yamaha wouldn't sell them...but up here they cost $32 each for a very basic filter. I can get Fram TG on sale for less than $8 each plus they're better filters. And as mentioned, why pay more and get nothing for it?

I ran the Napa Platinum 41348 filters on mine. I looked up specs and the filtration was finer with a higher flow rate than the oem. The napa premium was about equal to the oem from what I remember.

I loosely remember an older oil filter thread many years ago. Where yamaha oil filter are a metric thread, but most of the others are a standard American thread.
.....
Only reason I remember is it was the main reason why I started to only use yamaha filters.
....
I agree with many here that there are better filters made and also less expensive filters available.
