Yeah, thought we had that as it came with the board. But she got a little rope burn on her hand once. Going to look for one of those thicker ropes when I get a chance.
Here is a common sight when I trailer the boat to the Sacramento Delta. These are the biggest to date, 400’ tall, slow moving so that they are less likely to kill any birds, designed so Birds can’t easliy nest or stop on them and installed about 5 years ago. They replace about 30 of the older smaller windmills.
I bet they move slower to keep the tip of the wing from breaking the speed of sound (why helicopters "thump" BTW). Still kinda cool to see something that big just standing out in a field like that.
I recall reading a news story on these when they were first installed. I think the main reason for making them so large was to replace the less efficient smaller ones. The environmentalist were also pushing to save the hawks and other birds with would often not see the blades or not realize how fast they spin and end up getting knocked out of the sky/killed in flight or upon the crash to the ground. On those rare occasions that it gets to windy they lock the blades in place so that the wind mill / turbine does not get overwhelmed / over worked. I was surprised when I read this because i used to think the more wind the better but apparently there is a limit the owners of these things are not willing to exceed.
