Does a night at the prom really cost this much?
View attachment 55999

Damn near that much. Keep in mind that those costs are shared by both kids. The girl has dress, hair, makeup, spray tan, nails, etc. Boy has tux rental, transportation, food. Oh and don't forget Prom tickets. I think if you pre-ordered your tickets it was $50 each. If you paid at the door the price went up to like $75/each. In my case this year I had 2 girls going to Prom! You wanna talk about a kick to the ball sack!

Thanks that's a bit of a relief (I forgot to split the costs), now that my son is a freshman in high school.

Man, they all look amazing, but seriously, why did prom become as fancy as a wedding? I mean, don't people have better things to spend time and money on? At my age I was more worried about my car than going to prom! Well, finding a girl to go with was pretty important but I could have cared less of the actual party! HA! I will suggest that to my kids! skip prom, lets all go on a cool vacation! bring your "friend" and their parents and lets go wake boarding/surfing instead!

I didn't count exactly but there is more than 20 rods on that thing. None of them are looking like anything paticularly fance but is this in salt water?

Isn't alcohol a blood thinner? Maybe I was taught wrong on that... o_O
I had a great grandfather that was a horrid alcoholic and it left a bad taste for it for my whole extended family.
However, after all this stuff i am wondering if the occasional drink would have helped prevent!

Is it the weekend yet!? I'm ready for it...

If only the Minneapolis weather would cooperate! Last weekend sunny and 80 deg, this weekend rain and mid forties, argh!

Ha, yes - prom is becoming more of an event with each year/generation. I think they have the categories right but the split is probably different. Girls dresses, boy tux, prom ticket ($125/person at our school), flowers, hair, etc will definitely approach $750-$1K.

What's better is the kids have what they call senior week where they all rent beach houses in Ocean City Maryland. $Thousands but fortunately split between 8+ guys/girls. Not sure you can put a price on that though - one week with your buddies before you head off to college. Priceless as long as everyone has a good head on their shoulders.

There was a good documentary about that, few years back. It was titled "American Pie 2".
