I have lived in Naples for 20 something years and never really saw many pontoons over the years. Usually a pontoon boat on the water around here was a visitor that brought it here for vacation. Fast forward a bunch of years and they are now common on the intercoastal waters. Not really sure what changed, perhaps the buy in cost and maintenance is much lower?I was flipping through one of my boat magazines last night and saw some pontoons for over $200k. When did party barges become so expensive? Then again, these had twin 450R outboards, but still a pontoon at the end of the day.
Like most things, technology improves over the years. I can remember years back at boat shows where a 60hp outboard was big power on the pontoons. Not my cup of tea, but then again, jet boats aren’t for everyone either. Whatever can get you on the water, I am all for it! ?I think pontoons/tritoons have just gotten much better and faster so people don’t have to settle for terrible performance for that kind of space.
If you put those engines on old style pontoons they’d rip it apart.
Of you kept the grass like in back of the mower you would not need to do maintenance. ?
Oh the days of down riggers, line counters and drift bags for trolling.... Those were good times....While the temps are in the 80’s, we’re taking advantage before it snows next week. A few from today.
