Guest, we are pleased to announce that Hydrophase Ridesteady is offering an extra $100 off for JETBOATERS.NET members on any Ridesteady for Yamaha Speed Control system purchased through March 7th, 2025. Ridesteady is a speed control system (“cruise control”) that uses GPS satellites or engine RPM to keep your boat at the set speed you choose. On twin engine boats, it will also automatically synchronize your engines.
If this small shop pulls this off, they have my business any time I can't do the work.!
Also I want to shout out and many thanks to a few members here whom either have offered to come and help me fix it or to lend me their truck for the weekend. I truly appreciate all the offers. Will see how this goes today after they look at it and check on part.
@Yambers That is what I believe. Guy loosely estimated it around $300 or so including tow. Once they confirm what I am seeing. If it is anything more major, it will end up at the dealership and sit there for warranty work.
Odd that it happened on a newer vehicle, but it is possible something bounced off of the road and slashed it. Has your wife taken out any new insurance policies on you lately? Wait, that would be brake lines.. ha
Ok, shop called. Leaking from two lines, one is burst. There are 3 lines in chain of lines, it is also out of trans fluid. Ford has the lines in stock at a dealership, they are going to get them. Lines cost almost $540. They are charging me $785 which includes tax, parts, labor and trans fluid. They are going to get the parts now. They should have it ready between 6 and 7 p.m. this evening.
Told him to go ahead. SMH, would of been covered under warranty, but 3-4 weeks without it and no tow vehicle is not good for us, plus we have a couple of weekend trips planned with the boat.

Who knows. I bought the vehicle with circa 70k miles on it and now I have just over 80k or there abouts. No way to tell what previous owner did or how they maintained their vehicle. It has been a good vehicle for the most part.

A good father doing what good fathers do for their kids. Sounds like you are making the right choice. Glad the shop could salvage your Father's Day. (and by the way, I have fished many a swimming pools to have never caught anything. Glad you didn't have to go that route.)

Since it should be covered under warranty - will Ford reimburse you?
I did that once with Chevy. Submitted my claim, with receipts and received a check from Chevy 2 weeks later.
While that repair bill is nothing to sneeze at, the MOST important thing is that your FD plans are hopefully going to be in tact. Priceless memories to be had.
The timing of the failure, FD not withstanding, couldn’t have been better. There are a lot worse places for this failure to happen.. like after a day of boating and it crapped out on the ramp, or maybe on a long road trip somewhere. Just trying to blow a little ray of sunshine your way.
I’m stoked you found a shop to make the repairs for you!

You should be able to get reimbursed from Ford for the costs. 1. You are using Ford parts. 2. It was an emergency, and they had no replacement vehicle available. 3. It would be weeks before they could get you in. I worked for Ford for over 25 years. Make some noise, call the Ford rep., Corporate, whatever. That's covered under Powertrain Wty.
Just a thought, @HangOutdoors , that transmission has a seal that is prone to leak after awhile. I had Ford change the transmission fluid on my Expedition and it cost very little to replace that seal while they were working on it. Might be something to look at.

@HangOutdoors If you've replaced a transmission before, then you can fix this (although sounds like the shop already has it). New cars are just the same as before. Packaging is tighter, so you have to remove more things to get to what you want, but otherwise it's the same basic systems in place. If you decide to tackle something like this in the future, just like this forum, find another forum specific to your trucks make/model and start searching. Most likely you'll find equally helpful and enlightening posts, as well as someone else who has done the same thing, and can help you through the issue. If you go it alone, just take lots of pictures along the way, some notes on what went where, and get after it.
Good luck salvaging the weekend.
*edit*.....nevermind. I see you already have the truck back....What was the issue and the fix. Inquiring minds need to know man
Once you get back from this great weekend on the water, drop a case of beer off at that shop. Best thing to do and will get you service quickly next time as well.
And whats up Octavio
