I've always had issues with the stock fuel gauge not being accurate. I've messed with the adjustment screw in the past but it was still off. It finally started going out completely. So I bought a new one. the Replacement at boats.net is PN F2A-U824B-00-00 $84.17. It does come with the gasket, I wasn't sure so I ordered one and wasted 7.00.

Turned out I only had to work half a day today so I finally got around to installing it. I though it would be a 3o minute job including pulling the cover back...Not so much....2 hours later including hunting for new screws at the hardware store and it's all done.

The new one looks a little different, including no adjustment screw on top. Which is awesome assuming it's accurate. Also, the new one only has 2 wires...same plug, just one pin isn't used. So I hooked it up outside the tank, tuned the key on and moved the float, works in all positions.

Proceeded to pull out the old one...easy enough. 5 - 8mm cap screws,

First shock, no float on the old one....Or is it in my tank somewhere? Second surprise, the thickness of the top plate is much smaller on the new one. Didn't think much about it.

So I proceeded to coat both sides of the gasket area in permatex non hardening gasket sealer (yes it's good around fuel) Damn that stuff is sticky. First issue, starting the screws and the damn gasket isn't punched very accurately...the last screw hole in the gasket was hidden under the flange. Ugh, Had to pull 4 screws back out and start all the screws through the gasket first before putting it down in the tank. Now, I'm all covered in very sticky permatex. (Thus no more pictures) and I get all the screws started. Tightening them down and WTH, it bottoms out about a half inch before the flange...DAMN, the thickness difference. I thought the screws just went into the tank but apparently not...even though they are threaded the entire length. So I clean up my sticky fingers and go to the hardware store and get 5 10-24, 3/4" long SS cap screws. They worked fine but I had to take the rubber washers off the old screws (which are covered in permatex) and move them over so now I'm sticky again. get it all together and WHEW, turn the key on and BAM, half a tank. Should be about right. We'll see after a couple fill ups if it seems accurate.

Thanks for the details on fixing your gas gauge. I need to do the same with my boat. Tired of guessing. Winter project. Look forward to updates on how this works out.

Sweet, even cheaper for folks doing the swap.

@Big Shasta What length is the sender? The old one is a capacitance sender (not float style), and ethanol messes up its reading. The new capacitance senders reset themselves at full and adjust for the ethanol mix they read. I'll be curious how the float ones read.....please keep us posted. I contacted Centroid about the problems with mine and posted the findings here:

https://jetboaters.net/threads/fuel-gauge-calibration.2151/#post-39381

I've been planning on ordering a new sender but needed the length....

You're in luck, the old one is still in the garage. From the bottom of the flange to the tip of the rod is 11 7/8" The old one is, I didn't measure my wema float style before I installed it

In @Big Shasta 's first pic, even from the angle taken, they appear to be very close to the same length. WEMA only offers them in 1/2 in increments under 19" , so my money is on 12".

Found these pics as well, not very accurate but...

Also just spotted it in the first pic... on the head of the sending unit "SSL 12"

$35 here (out of box - no gasket)

http://greatlakesskipper.com/wema-ssl-12-inch-boat-fuel-or-water-tank-sensor-sending-unit-22605

Shipping to me is $10 from WEMA and $14 from Great Lakes...

Last edit... Part numbers:

Ignore the 001306, that appears to be the part number for the flange. I did searches for "WEMA SSL 12" and "WEMA 22605" and found some on eBay as well.

And if you buy other than OEM, looks like bare wires, you will be re-using the old connecter.

If someone buys that one without a gasket, let me know. I'll ship you a new gasket free of charge. Just because i'm a nice guy. (I bought one because I wasn't sure the new unit came with one...I've got no use for it.)

@Big Shasta great write up. Hopefully Ill never need this info, but always good to have access to it.

Also, I'm sure the gasket & sealer would add an 1/8" or so to the clearance on the bottom of the tank.

Sometimes those poly tanks cave in if anyone stepped or leaned on it. Give it a tug to pop it out. Yeah.....that sounds strange!!

I fitted a new one and as usual getting parts over here in Thailand is hard work so after a close examination of the old sender and removing labels i noticed a small embossed made in China mark so i got on the net and took some photos and measurements and did some homework, Low and behold i located a supplier who was more than helpful, Apparently there is a difference in resistance measurements on these sender units either 190 ohm or 230 ohm, After sending the Photos and as much info as i could to this company they assessed that it was a 230 ohm sender unit and sent one to me, When it arrived it was different to mine as i never had a float and this one did and also it was 2 wire not 3, I fitted it and wired it as instructions and all is fine including the low fuel alarm so all went well, The postage was more than the sender unit but i got it in 3 days, Sender unit was about $10 and $12 postage oh and $2 import duty when i asked how they get it to $2 import duty the reply was it depends how the Post Office manager feels at the time, I don't have the Photos anymore but it was a 12 inch at 230 0hm, I think i still have the details somewhere if anyone is stuck give me a shout and i will go searching, Good Luck
