Cold hard start

Yes, but the other side engine is fine.

What I did earlier, is I removed the clean out hatch switch and clean its internals. It seemed a bit dirty and is a bit stuck. I recalled today that I did have an issue with that switch where the hatch wasn't activating the switch fully, and had glued in some epoxy to push it down further when closed. I did realize today, I could have just adjusted the thread on the switch, I also did that. It starts fine now, but I really need to wait a day for 2 to really test it as I started it this morning. I will report back.

Awesome! Yes please follow up! Glad it seems to be starting better now.

Have you tried cleaning the top end by fogging with seafoam or something similar? I bet your valves are crusted up with carbon. I was having similar issues and did a top end cleaning and now I have trouble free startups (knock on wood).

I may try that, so using the spray into the intake? I do have some CRC cleaner I had used on my direct injection car.

Yes, spray into the intake. I also adjusted my switches and that also may have played into the easier startups. I ended up replacing one of them, making them higher up and even adjusting the latch to be tighter upon closure and locking.

I was able to start it right up today, I think it was the hatch switch, I'll know for sure after it sits for many days. I'll update the thread after some time.

Call that a win!

I still have a hard start fyi. Only when left for days.

I will have to try that.

Define hard start please.

Define hard start please.
It takes 5 tries for it to stay running. It almost fires, then stops. If I keep trying to turn it over it won't start. I have to let go of the key, and try again, sputters, I have to do that 5 times at least.

Have you ohm checked the pick up coil? Done a compression test? New plugs ?

Compression was fine,I tested it last year when troubleshooting, I have swapped the coils with the other engine. I have put new plugs in.

Ignition switch?
Ohm checked pick up coil?

But you have not checked the pick up coil?

I haven't looked at the ignitions switch, I will swap them. I'm not sure what the pickup coil is. I have only looked at each spark plug coil.

The pick up coil is down on the stator it basically tells the ignition when to fire. There have been several folks with hard start issues that were traced back to the pick up coil being out of spec. Once replaced their engines started right up. Get a shop manual to see where it’s at and what the ohm spec is.
