Hello, I apologize if this question has been asked before, but I am new to jet boating. I bought a 2008 Yamaha AR 230 high output jet boat. It is in overall good condition, but the previous owner said the starboard side tachometer was not working and needed replaced. I pulled the SB Gauge out and plugged it in into the Port side harness and it worked so the issue is not the gauge. The wiring behind the dash looks fine too. I assume the issue is in the back engine bay area. There are no mechanics in my area available to look at my boat until October. I’m trying to diagnosed this myself if possible. Can anyone guide me to where the sensor is? I read through the owners manual and I do not see this notated so I need some guidance.

By chance did you look at the pins in the wiring harness to see if any where lose? Also in the engine bay, or under the helm there is the diagnostic ports for connecting the YDS software. I know in my former 2012 boat when connecting the YDS, the tacks would not work.

Here is a video, about 2 mins in you can see what the cable/connector looks like. In this case it was inside an access hatch adjacent to the engine compartment.

Also, huge positive to hear it’s not your tach!

I did not look at the side locker area behind the circle plate yet but did try to look at the other harness and wire connections. I may order this tool to diagnose this. Thanks for the reply.

If you’re mentioning the YDS - I have one that I was going to post here and just haven’t gotten around to it. Works with the older boats, but not the newer TR1, 1.8 or 1.9 engines.

Probably $10 for shipping and it’s yours. If you’re interested, just let me know.

Will it work with the 2008 MR1 high output engines?

I never had that engine, but believe yes. It is the same generic YDS that you will find on e bay.
