Thought I'd start a thread about design oddities, flaws, and possible solutions.

- the engine flush ports are in a very weird spot; using the provided hose cap is just asking for premature seat cushion wear and tear; using the thin hose adapter that Yamaha sells should help, but are there better options? Relocating the ports? Using a 90 degree adapter?

- the rear storage compartments are sweet... but there's nothing keeping the hinges from eventually (even quickly) breaking; maybe adding some sort of a retaining cord, to keep the door from opening too far / too quickly?

- when lowering and then raising the wake tower, the inner steel cable coiled up rather than dropping through the hole, so without noticing this at first, I struggled with the tower; maybe adding weight to the end of the cable, or some sort of bungee would help keep it taut?

- on a related note, lowering and raising the tower by myself (granted, when the wet shipping cover was on) was made a lot easier by using a simple strap which gave me control and leverage

- the anchor compartment is pretty big, but has that small opening, so any thoughts on enlarging it, without compromising the boat?

added 4/26/15

- the ski locker doesn't open all the way, and when open as much as it can be, the hinges creak from the stress; not sure if there's an easy fix for this

- as my current profile pic shows, I like to stand at the wheel; there's not enough room between the wheel and seat (even with the bolster raised), so my calves are jammed into the seat, which becomes uncomfortable pretty quickly

Found two more:

On the older models the captain's seats have the ability to slide forward and after, I'd be surprised that the 2015's don't slide. On my boat the slide release is on the left side about center of the seat.

It slides but not far back enough to give enough space to stand as I did in my previous SX230.

The seats do slide, just not enough, it seems. My 05 SX230 has the opposite problem. I can't slide the seat close enough, but boy do I have a lot of room when it's slid all the way back.

@CharlestonJet - I'm assuming you moved on to a new 2015 24 footer. Can you update your profile please?

Both Captain's Chair, on 2015 24 foot boats:
A) Recline
B) Swivel
C) Slide back and forth.
NOTE: If you are of a large(r) stature, the Driver's seat MAY not move back far enough to stand up comfortably, despite having the bolster in this seat in the raised position.

The 2015 24-foot Captain's Chairs are just 1 MORE reason why these ALL NEW boats are THE BOMB and worth far more than any $ difference in price over a 2014 ! And I am not the only 1 who will tell you that ! Most of us who own these boats could write complete BOOKS talking about the significant changes and improvements Yamaha has made.

Wishing everyone a great week this week - Especially if you can get out on the water ! Mikey Lulejian - Lake Oconee, GA

@MikeyL - I agree with most of what you say; the boat is the bomb and the improvements are great! However, with the bolster issue, the problem is that it flips up is in the middle of the seat and the entire seat isn't the bolster. When the bolster is flipped up, the outsides of the seat are still in the same position and therefore your legs must be together between the outsides of the seat. For anyone of any stature, that is just an awkward way to stand to captain a boat. Most people stand with their feet apart and will not be able to do so on our new boats. That said, I can live with that and have adjusted. I don't stand directly infront of the wheel, but off to port. My left leg kind of straddles the seat.

The floor footprint is about the same from 2014 to 2015. Guys complained that the seat would not swivel all the way around. So Yamaha moved the seat mount forward it appears to me, so as to allow it to swivel 180 degrees. Only so much room in the boat, either back to give more room for the captain, or forward to give more capability to swivel. I noticed this at the boat show when I looked at the boat almost immediately. I know the floor is structurally enhanced to allow the seat to be mounted securely. I wonder how much compromise it would be to move the mounting holes aft an inch or two? If you did, you wouldn't be able to swivel the seat 180 degrees as I mentioned above however.

......Also, have you noticed there are NO pictures or videos of a captain standing? I think Yamaha is aware.

I had not noticed that...really? I am guessing the seat change may have been an attempt to regain some of the room lost moving it forward?

Only thing that really bugs me on this list is the ski locker that doesn't open more.

Edit: The flip up bolster only flipping up in the middle is very annoying.

Charleston Jet,

In reply to your original post, here is what I've done so far:

- rear storage compartments, drilled a very small hole into the face the seat rests onto and placed a small eyelet into the back of the seat and attached both with a small bungee cord.

As for the seat - I zip tied some double folded pipe installation to the bar. Just tested it out yesterday - HUGE improvement!

Still working on the jet flush ports, I too don't care for the location. Thinking a pvc double 90 with a ball valve on top would work best.
